Historic 1925 Spanish Bungalow that is one of Mt. Dora's featured homes with amazing outdoor living space under a gorgeous oak tree in the front yard that overlooks Donnelly Park right in the middle of a walkable town. Stroll through the quaint lakeside town of Mt. Dora to find numerous shops and great restaurants. You can also grab a few bikes and use the bike path just one house down the street. We have equipment for pickleball (you can see the courts from the front yard) and Frisbee golf (about a mile away) that we leave at the house for you to use.
There's ample parking for cars which comes in handy on the weekends as many times there are art and craft or antique shows and festivals. The community center is just across the street. During the holidays everything is lit up and people come from all over to stroll around the town and enjoy the festivities. Google Mt. Dora festival calendar and be ready to be in awe.
The space
The home has a master bedroom with a king bed on one side of the house and a guest bedroom with a queen bed on the other. The one bathroom has a shower, no tub. In the back of the house is a sitting room where you can also use a queen inflatible mattress on request. There's a dining room table that seats four and another bar with seating for four more just next to it. In the backyard we are currently constructing two additional buildings and outdoor living spaces to be completed by next November 2024.
Downstairs you'll find a washer and dryer in the basement (yes, basement, one of the few in all of Florida but beware it is only about 5 and 1/2 feet tall). Our favorite thing about the whole property though is the front yard where we have a large L shaped couch under a huge oak tree that we like to sit out and have a glass of wine and watch the people going by in the evenings.
Guest access
There are about 6 steps up to the house.
Notes
We are building a garage and workshop and a cabana house in the backyard at the moment with an estimated completion to be summer of 2024. The house won't be touched, but construction personnel and trucks will be coming and going so we haven't updated our calendar.

Neighbourhood
Mt. Dora is known for its majestic oaks throughout the surrounding neighborhoods that having rolling topography, not the typical flat mainly found in Florida. The quaint town itself is lakeside next to a marina that is just down the hill with two more city parks. There are dozens of cute shops and boutiques and many local restaurants. For something different, try the Segway tour of town. You can also take a boat tour or rent a boat at the marina.
Our home sits across the street from the community center and diagonal from Delaney Park with its pickleball courts. There is quite a bit of foot traffic and people are often taking pictures of the house as we sit out in the front yard under our own large oak tree.
People come from Orlando and its suburbs to spend a day. We live on the north end of Orlando about 30 minutes away and use the home as our own local getaway and a place to "store" relatives when they want to stay for more than three days! Just kidding!
You are about an hour from the beach, 30-40 minutes from half a dozen natural springs, amidst many lakes and 24 miles to Walt Disney World.
Getting to my home
The easiest way to get here is to fly into one of our 2 international airports each about an hour away and either rent a car or take an Uber.
Nearest airport
Orlando (MCO) airport is about an hour away by car or Uber (approximately $40) as is Sanford (SFB) as well.
Getting around
All of the quaint shops and restaurants are walkable as well as many parks. The large grocery store (Publix) is just under 2 miles away.
We just had a delightful time at Angela and Chris’s house Their home was beautiful and in the heart of quaint downtown with shopping and 17 restaurants. The kayaking in the area is fantastic. Angela was very easy to communicate with. A couple of days before arrival she sent a detailed message with everything I needed to know about accessing her home, wifi, garbage days, etc. Once in the home, she also had a welcome letter that we referred to for our questions. I was VERY impressed with our first experience with PLU. It could not have gone smoother.

Jenny and Mike and their kids were ideal guests with wonderful communication and leaving our house the way they found it. I loved that Jenny posted highlights on FB of her time spent in our home. We couldn't have asked for a better first exchange on PLU. Hope to do it again sometime.

We are a young semi retired couple. I have a business that runs itself and Chris is a retired hydro geologist that now finds passion in fixing up homes. We have a lake home in Orlando where we spend time with my two children and a recently acquired historical 1925 Spanish bungalow in downtown Mt. Dora.
We both love hiking, biking, pickleball, skiing, all kinds of water sports; scuba diving, boating, SUPs, white water rafting, snorkeling... we are crazy about travel and have a huge desire to explore places we haven't been to yet. We enjoy taking cooking classes and trying new cuisine. We've done all kinds of things in other countries from volunteer work to beach volleyball tournaments. But the best thing about all of it is meeting new people and embracing new cultures.
We've been traveling extensively (80+ countries and all 50 states) throughout our lives and quite a bit over the last 8-10 years, living in Europe a few months in 2018 and I lived in Thailand for about a year in the 90s. We will go places and stay awhile and may have friends or family join us for part of the trip. My two children (18 &.21) travel about half of the time with us.
We are laid back, respectful (as we know what it's like to have people in our homes) and love to get into the local places where we go.
We have used airbnb and similar platforms for years and have rented out 2nd homes before and have used another exchange platform with over 80 exchanges, but looking forward to the feel of this group.
