Surrounded by fortifications dating from the 17th century, Old Quebec is full of historical monuments and museums. The Haute-Ville includes the Citadelle (built in the 19th century), the imposing Château Frontenac hotel and the Dufferin terrace, a vast promenade overlooking the city. A funicular connects the area to Lower Town and the Petit Champlain district, where there is a stone church from 1688 and Place Royale. Charming boutiques line Rue du Petit Champlain
