General overview

Our two storey Californian bungalow renovated home is located in a sought after bayside suburb. We are 1.5kms from beautiful, clean beaches, 4 doors away from a large oval, park and scout hall (our tween attends scouts there) and a stroll from many restaurants, cafes, train station, supermarket and retail shops (1-1.5km) but still only 16.5km from the Melbourne CBD for galleries, museums, theatre, etc.

The space

We enjoy much entertaining from our back deck that overlooks our family sized in-ground pool and pretty green garden. It is well equipped for entertaining with an outdoor table and chairs, lounge, hammock, swinging chair and bbq as well as retractable awning. Our tween and teen and their friends especially enjoy the pool and trampoline. We love to cook family meals in our large well equipped kitchen with much light. In winter we cosy up in front our our fireplace (there are two) and toast marshmallows! Upstairs is the kids retreat with two bedrooms, a bathroom and huge playroom/lounge plus balcony overlooking the garden (with a cosy chair). Downstairs includes the parents bedroom, sunny study, sunny half study, two lounge rooms (one with a sunny bay window, the other with French doors to the garden) and bathroom. With a tween and teen we of course have good wifi and Netflix, Disney and Amazon Prime and various toys, games and sports gear. We are all avid book lovers so there is a ridiculous amount of books for all ages of all types throughout our home.

Neighbourhood

Ours is a family neighbourhood with lots of large family homes, many of them period homes, many green spaces and a safe, community feel. The neighbours are lovely and friendly. Our tween's school is 500 metres away and our teen's school is 1.6km away (they ride or walk). We enjoy great local restaurants (Indian, Thai, Italian, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc) and fabulous cafes within easy walking distance. There are lots of local activities, especially for kids (ours do sailing, archery, sewing, art, and more). There are many lovely local parks and green spaces nearby as well as golf courses, water activities (eg SUP, boating), sports clubs, period homes (that have markets and other events, including the stunning Ripponlea), bike riding (Beach Rd is a 5-10 minute ride away for avid cyclists), etc. The local council is often running great events including over summer and for Christmas. A major indoor shopping centre is a 10 minute drive away. The international airport is about a 1 hour drive. A 20-25 minute train ride takes you to great locations like the National Gallery Victoria (lots of great exhibitions) and Melbourne Aquarium. We are relatively central to many Victorian tourist attractions (eg about 1.5hrs to Phillip Island to see cute fairy penguins and sites; around 50 minutes to the stunning Dandenongs with plenty of hikes, Puffing Billy railway and activities like tree surfing; around 1.5-2hrs to scenic Great Ocean Road; about 1hr to the resort town of Sorrento).

Getting around

All you need is local with a major supermarket 1.4km away along with bakeries, grocer, butchers, bottle shops, cafes, restaurants and services. The local shopping strip is very well equipped. You can walk there in 10 minutes or ride our bikes even more quickly. We have a bus stop a couple of minutes walk away and a train station around a 10 minute walk for easy access to the CBD and other locations.

Melissa

We are a family of four - Melissa (lawyer, sweet tooth, avid reader, history lover), Andrew (IT consultant, surfer, Netflix enthusiast, porsche lover) and our children Finn (13, Lego addict, keen fisherman, sailor) and Abbey (11, avid drawer, axolotl mad, working on archery). We have travelled together to Europe, Asia and the US and love it - we truly believe that travel broadens our perspectives. We have largely stayed in Airbnb with a great rating so are new to home exchanging but love the concept and will treat other homes like our own - with care and respect
