Neighbourhood
The Confluence district is very recent (barely 20 years old) and therefore very contemporary, originally built by great architects. The paths are wide and sunny, the green spaces present enough to walk around and few cars circulate there.
The second part of the Confluence district is being built behind the Darse, you can visit it and see construction sites still in progress. If you are interested in architecture, you may like it, there is a raw earth building for example, then up to the tip of the Presqu'ile, architectural buildings along the Saône.
Always on foot, or by bike, take the opportunity to visit the Musée des Confluences, an architectural feat, it's fabulous with the family, and the Musée de la Sucrière as well.
It is a very recent and dynamic district both during the week and at the weekend, inhabited mainly by families.
Nearest airport
Saint Exupéry at 20km, via Rhône Express tram or by road.
Getting around
The Confluence district is located in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon and very close to the gourmet shops and traditional restaurants known as "bouchons lyonnais" on the Presqu'île, as soon as you pass under the station through the recently opened pedestrian/bike tunnel.
Otherwise, the Cours Charlemagne is a closer shopping axis, 3 min walk with all the shops necessary for everyday life; mini-markets, bakeries, pastry shops, organic food stores, bars and small restaurants, florist, wine shop, hairdresser...
A 12-minute walk away, you will also find a mall facing the Darse (a kind of port) with a large supermarket and other shops including cinemas, gym, climbing and other leisure activities including boat trips (book at advance), and the Vaporetto, which is the river shuttle that can take you to Place Bellecour (hypercentre of Lyon), or Old Lyon (medieval, Renaissance, etc.).
It is also very well located AND peaceful for a City stay, it offers metros, trams (1 and 2), buses, vaporetto, and of course city bikes :-) to get around Lyon and even beyond. Many cycle paths have been developed and can take you everywhere and as far as the Parc de la Tête d'Or via the banks of the Rhône.
