Neighbourhood

Queenstown is in one of NZ's most scenic locations, and is close to world class wineries as well as three skifields in season and world heritage scenery in Fiordland. There is endless choice of activity - slow and reflective, or action-oriented and thrill-seeking, as well as gold mining history (eg. http://www.arrowtown.com/) and of course, Lord of the Rings interest Several of NZ's Great Walks start in the area and slightly further afield, the Catlins and Stewart Island on NZ's south coast are two of the untouristed wildlife opportunities to experience NZ as the locals do. There are a couple of great vineyards very close to town (for example, Amisfield http://www.amisfield.co.nz ) and a personal favourite, Gibbston Valley. The central Otago Pinot vineyards are a scenic drive away. There are also a range of golf courses in Queenstown and Arrowtown themselves, as well as nearby. A couple of hours' drive away are the world's most southerly links. Mountain bikers will find a choice of interesting as well as challenging routes. More info: http://www.queenstownnz.co.nz/ http://www.catlins.org.nz/ http://www.stewartisland.co.nz/ http://www.lordoftheringstours.co.nz/

Nearest airport

Queenstown airport. Approx 20 minutes away.

Getting around

There is a small area about a 10 minute slightly hilly walk with a corner dairy, nice Italian restaurant, fish and chip shop etc from the house. The bus stop into town is also there. However, while we have had non-driving home exchangers, you really need a car to make the most of the area. Unfortunately we cannot offer a car exchange.

Pim

We are a retired active couple: Stuart is an engineer and Pim is a doctor. We have lived and worked in the UK and Australia as well as NZ, but always enjoy coming to our Queenstown home to relax and savour our wonderful country. We love travel and have had some wonderful trips of all kinds in the past - and are looking forward to more in future. We both used to be glider pilots (Stuart had a power licence too), and he still collects old cars and loves tearing around on his motorbike at weekends. We are line dancers. We are also very interested in birdwatching, tramping, cycling and exploring old cities. With >100 exchanges to date (we have been swapping since 1987) we are always interested in New Zealand and unusual destinations! We have had many wonderful trips to Australia and are not planning any more for the moment. Currently only looking for Pacific Islands and Japan.
