General Overview

A spacious strawbale home, set back from the road, and surrounded by an enclosed patio and vegetable and flower gardens, then surrounded by trees on all sides. The home is set on 5 acres, mostly native bush, but with a small paddock, and several vegetable and flower beds next to the road. We have many native birds, especially Tuis and bellbirds and a beehive that is looked after by a professional apiarist. Although we have dogs and donkeys, we would take them all away for any exchange, so there is no question of any animal care.

The Space

We have two bedrooms, each with en-suite, one upstairs and one on the ground floor. The remaining living space is open plan, with dining room and kitchen (induction hob and electric ovens) and -separated by a suspended log fire - a living room. There ar several spots around the home to enjoy a glass of wine and a book, both inside and out in the garden. Solar powered, including smart charging for EV.

Guest Access

One main floor, with smaller bedroom area upstairs to maximise the view of the treetops and one bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Easily accessible..

Notes

As this is our home (never rented out or used for AirBnB etc,) it is fully equipped. We built the hime 11 years ago. As we will be moving our donkeys during any exchange, we ask that a minimum 3 nights exchange is requested. Very happy to consider longer exchanges too, ideally non-simultaneous, and globes also welcome.

Neighbourhood

Although we are a small city, there is plenty to explore locally, including the wildlife of the peninsula (yellow eyed penguins, albatross colony) and our local beach (sea lions and a sea leopard at times with whales visible during migration), history and outstanding gardens (Larnach Castle, Olveston House, Dunedin Botanic Garden), Otago university, and a busy arts scene, including our literature festival, film festival, arts and fringe festivals. Good good, an active music scene and plenty of scenic cycling routes to explore. https://www.dunedinnz.com/visit/see-and-do

Getting to my home

We are located in a rural area, but still only a few minutes from Mosgiel, where all daily needs are available (including teo supermarkets, grangers, several pharmacies, medical and dental services etc ) and 15 minutes drive from Dunedin city. All the best of a rural location with easy access to city life.

Nearest airport

Dunedin airport (DUD) 17 kms from home (on the same side of the city).

Getting Around

Although there is a bus service from the end of our road, it is a somewhat hilly walk of 1.25 kms to the stop, so a car is really needed. EV car exchange may be available.

Pim

We are a retired active couple: Stuart is an engineer and Pim is a doctor. We have lived and worked in the UK and Australia as well as NZ, but always enjoy coming to our Queenstown home to relax and savour our wonderful country. We love travel and have had some wonderful trips of all kinds in the past - and are looking forward to more in future. We both used to be glider pilots (Stuart had a power licence too), and he still collects old cars and loves tearing around on his motorbike at weekends. We are line dancers. We are also very interested in birdwatching, tramping, cycling and exploring old cities. With >100 exchanges to date (we have been swapping since 1987) we are always interested in New Zealand and unusual destinations! We have had many wonderful trips to Australia and are not planning any more for the moment. Currently only looking for Lot et Garonne, Bologna, Sirolo, Dolomites and Japan.
