General overview
Philo is located in Anderson Valley in Mendocino County. Anderson Valley is a prime grape growing region of California and is well known for Pinot Noir grapes and Roederer sparkling wine. One can easily spend a whole day wine tasting up and down the valley. Boonville, a nearby town has restaurants, a grocery store, tasting rooms and a goat cheese creamery, goat tours and a restaurant. Philo is just 10 minutes from our house and has a restaurant and very good grocery store. There are farm stands in the summer. Just 6 minutes from us is Hendy Woods State Park, with ancient giant redwoods. The town of Elk, on the coast has numerous restaurants, lodgings & the beautiful Elk Beach State Park.
The space
Our home was built in the 30's as a 2 room schoolhouse. By 1950 it was sold as a private home. We added a second story in 1989. There are 3 bedrooms. The first floor can be accessed from the carport with no stairs. On the 1st floor is a laundry room, en suite bedroom, kitchen, dining room and living room and second bathroom. The second floor has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with walk in shower. The master bedroom has a balcony.
Guest access
The first floor is on one level with no stairs. Entering from the carport is the laundry room, en suite bedroom, 2nd full bathroom, kitchen and living/dining room. There are 2 doors to the deck. Another door leads to our daughter's house and the vegetable garden and chicken house. The second floor has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with walk-in shower.
Notes
We have chickens so there are always fresh eggs. Our Shelty dog will be cared for by our daughter. Our daughter and her husband live in a separate house on the property and are available to help with questions and any problems that might arise. There is a large swimming pool and hot tub. The pool area has a small kitchen and half bath. There is a picnic table, umbrellas and pool furniture. There is a large perennial flower garden in front of the house and further toward the back is a large vegetable garden, usually with some organic produce. There is a large orchard.

We enjoy traveling to just about anywhere. We live on a farm in the redwoods about 7 miles as the crow flies from the coast. Our home has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, and a swimming pool. We have goats and chickens. We enjoy short stays in cities, but prefer a more rural home base.
