Our Florida home is located on the Island of Venice, an historic beach community on the Gulf of Mexico. Venice is a great base for exploring the southwest Florida. We are halfway between Naples and Tampa (1.5 hours to each). Orlando is 2 hours to the east. There is never a shortage of events in our area. Some of our favorites include juried art festivals, music festivals, sand castle competition, chalk festival, shark tooth festival and the Suncoast BBQ festival. We are happy to exchange on weekends of these events! Sarasota also has a vibrant downtown with galleries, fine dining and lots of local shoppings. Venice is a gulfside town and it is easy to explore our waters by kayaks or pontoon boat (available for rental year round).
The space
Our home is mid-century beach house. It has three bedrooms (one king and two queen). The house has an open floor plan for living room and dining room which leads out to the covered patio in our large, fenced backyard. The eat in kitchen looks out to our plumeria garden. The guest and master baths were completely updated this Summer.

Neighbourhood
Venice Island is a very quiet, bikeable community with a quaint downtown with 2 miles of beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. Our home provides a pass to a deeded private beach access which is a quick walk, bike ride or drive from our home (1/2 mile). There are several other beaches on the island including one with a fishing pier and awesome beach bar and restaurants (Sharkey's and Fins). Our Casperson beach is more natural and offers the opportunity for shark tooth hunting. Our main street has shops, restaurants, coffee houses and art galleries. A good supermarket (Publix) is 5 minutes from the house, also on the island. In addition to riding around the island, you can bike to over 15 miles of paved greenway on the Venetian Waterway and Legacy bike trails.
Getting to my home
A rental car is recommended however car service can be arranged from the airports and uber is generally available.
Nearest airport
Airports that are convenient to Venice include Sarasota (40 min), Tampa, Clearwater and Fort Meyers (all about 1.5 hr) and Orlando (2 hr)
Getting around
While you could walk and use bikes to ride to almost anything you need on Venice Island, we would strongly recommend a car if you would like to drive to dinner and experience all that Sarasota has to offer. Ubers are becoming more available as well. We have one woman's and one men's bike which you may use. Bikes can also be rented from the local bike shop.

Amy and Jay
We are two newly retired adults. We have recently moved from New York to our house in Florida and are working hard to make it our home. After we are done fixing it up, we hope to explore other parts of USA and beyond through home exchanging. We expect to start exchanging Summer 2022.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
