Neighbourhood
Forest Hill has that rare mix of leafy, family-friendly calm with just enough personality to keep it interesting. It’s green, residential, and relaxed, but still well connected — close enough to feel part of London without the intensity. Think independent coffee spots, good schools, parks everywhere, weekend farmers’ markets, and a slightly understated South East London charm. It attracts a mix of young families, professionals, and people who want a bit more space and community without giving up city access. A place where people actually know their neighbours, kids are always on scooters somewhere, and there’s a nice balance of low-key energy and convenience.
Right on the doorstep is the much-loved Horniman Museum and Gardens, one of the area’s biggest draws, alongside green staples like Sydenham Woods, Dulwich Park and Peckham Rye and Common for playgrounds, walks, sports, and lazy afternoons. A little further out, Beckenham Place Park offers a bigger outdoor escape with woodland trails, open swimming, and loads of space for families to spend the day.
Forest Hill is surrounded by some of South East London’s best spots, so there’s always plenty nearby without needing to venture far.
Brockley adds a slightly trendier, creative feel with great coffee, weekend markets, and a strong sense of community.
Crofton Park is more low-key and residential, loved for its family-friendly feel and local independent spots.
Peckham brings a bit more buzz with great food, rooftop drinks, and creative energy.
Nunhead has a more village-like feel with independent cafés, pubs, and a strong local community.
East Dulwich is a go-to for family-friendly brunches, boutique shops, and an easy weekend atmosphere.
