Fancy losing yourself in the ancient and beautiful land of Cornwall?
The rugged south-westerly tip of England, surrounded on all sides by sea has long been a draw for many a visitor, both local and international. With its mythical tales of giants, mermaids, pixies, beasts on the barren moors and the home of King Arthur at Tintagel, Cornwall has simply an incredible amount of historical, cultural, and leisurely attractions.
And St Ives, often considered to be the 'jewel in Cornwall's crown', is a microcosm of everything that makes Cornwall such a wonderful place to visit. Four fantastic beaches with pure golden sand and crystal-clear water; the calm Porthminster for bathers and the choppier Porthmeor for surfers, as well as the harbour beach that boasts working fishing boats and the 'hidden' Porthgwidden beach. Dreamy cobbled streets lead you past galleries, St Ives having been an artists hub for over 100 years with luminaries such as Barbara Hepworth and Alfred Wallis relocating to the town after being inspired by the peerless quality of light - culminating in the world-famous Tate Gallery. Let the narrow traditional lanes sweep you past old fishermens houses, unchanged for hundreds of years, past award-winning fish restaurants and quaint English pubs, and on to the ever-popular branch line service that runs along the coast to Carbis Bay and Lelant (both with their own beaches to boast about), or perhaps the St Ives coastal walk, where the breath-taking views can be savoured and cherished.
Nearby days out and attractions are numerous, including the internationally-known Minack Theatre (amphitheatre), which boasts productions all year-round; the dreamy majesty of St Michael's Mount (walkable via a causeway if the tide is out); the cragged dramatic cliff-edges and churning restless seas of Land's End, as well as the modern eco wonder that is the Eden Project, with its quite incredible biomes that house rainforests placed in a reclaimed English China Clay pit.
All this and much, much more is at your fingertips in one of the most popular places to visit in the country - come and discover Cornwall, and its 'jewel' of St Ives for yourself!
