Our home is a lovely, tranquil space - peaceful, light-filled and comfortable. We have spaces to curl up and read, settle in to watch a movie, chill out and listen to music, have a coffee and chat or entertain friends for dinner or drinks in the garden.
Der Raum
Downstairs our house is more or less open plan - the hall opens into the living room and the kitchen and dining area. The living room is at the front of the house and via French doors, it opens into the kitchen and dining area at the back of the house so they flow very easily into one another. They can also be closed off from one another - if someone wants to watch a movie in the living room while others want to chat or play music in the kitchen! There's also a WC downstairs - just off the hall.
There's plenty of books around the place upstairs and downstairs and a massive selection of games, quizzes and board games. We have vinyl and CD players and lots of both around however if none are to your taste then of course there's Alexa and WIFI to play your own collection. We are all current affairs and documentary buffs in our house so there's a radio in every room. The TV is in the living room - we have SKY, Netflix and Amazon Prime and we also have a DVD player with a selection of DVDs if you cannot find something you like on the streaming services.
Upstairs are the three bedrooms - one has a superking size bed and the other two are doubles - two are at the back of the house and one is at the front - it's pretty quiet most of the time - we have double glazed windows and they do a good job of keeping out loud noises! The office/study is also upstairs at the front of the house and so is the main bathroom which has a shower and a bath.
The back wall of the house is three glass double French doors which open out completely onto the back garden - on sunny and bright days this is a really pleasant option! There are a few nice places to sit and relax in the back garden - there's a comfy bench, a couple of sun loungers parked in the best sunspot in the garden, you can take meals outside where we have a table and chairs and right at the back of the garden, we have a gazebo where you can take a coffee or a glass of wine in the evening and relax.
Our son loves every and any kind of game with a ball so we have a basketball hoop, a goal, a hurling rebounder and every type of ball and bat! There's also plenty of other outdoor toys such as water guns and Nerf guns, slingshots, water balloons, tennis rackets, skateboard, scooter, pogo stick, razor cart and hover board - the usual paraphernalia for a bit of outdoor fun and diversion!
Gastzugang
There's a downstairs and an upstairs - outside is the garage and a small garden shed at the back of the garden - you have access to all of the house inside and out.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Marys and Johns place in Dublin! Their house is gorgeous; very quirky, cosy, large and really welcoming. They had put out a lovely welcome basket and some great suggestions for how do get around their area and beyond. Living very close to the tram station and still in a quiet rural area made it perfect! We were lucky to meet up briefly at the airport - an absolutely lovely family! I really recommend exchanging with them!
We had a great home exchange with Mary, John and Kena in August 2022. Their lovely, very cozy house has a large garden and a great terrace for sunny days and is located in the upmarket Southern suburb of Churchtown. It has very convenient access to Dublin centre by the modern and fast tramway; shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance.
Mary and John provided us with lots of practical information about their home and things to see and do in the area; they are very kind people we very much enjoyed communicating with.
We also swapped cars with them which wasn't necessary for most of Dublin but excellent for a trip to the Wicklow mountains that were a huge contrast to downtown Dublin.
We really had a great time in Dublin in Mary and John's house. It is spacious and has everything you need. There're enough books to keep you busy for a year and enough games to play if the weather is a bit rainy. They also have a nice office, which was really useful since we both had some work to do. The house was really comfortable and it felt like home instantly.
The location is perfect, just a few minute walk to the tram station that will take you to the city centre in around 15-20 minutes. We couldn’t swap cars, but they let us ride their electric bikes. So, we went on a beautiful tour along the coast. The supermarkets are within a couple minutes, walking or biking distance.
Dublin is a lively city, there is enough to see and experience for everyone. If you want to go for a drink at a pub, whiskey or Guinness tasting, shopping or just a relaxing day at the park. Dublin has it all. And if you’re lucky like us, you might be able to go to a Riverdance show. If you’re not so much of a city person, there is enough to do around the city, like going on a hike in Howth.
It was our first home exchange on PLU and we loved every minute. John, Mary and Kena you guys are a lovely family. The communication was perfect and we had such a great time. We highly recommend exchanging with you!
Tout s’est très bien passé chez moi et sans hésitation, je peux affirmer qu’il s’agit de personnes de confiance
Mary, John and their son were the best house and cat sitters ever :-). They fed our cat, watered the plants and my house was spotless when i came home after the exchange. Lovely people all around - hope to meet again.
Mary and John were excellent guests who had friendly exchanges with our neighbours and left our flat and car in perfect condition.
John, Mary and Kena took great care of our home. They left everything perfectly behind. The communication was perfect. We messaged on PLU and had a call prior to seeing each other. We saw them on the first day of the exchange in our house. Which was really useful to swap the keys and give them a quick tour. It felt familiar immediately. They are a lovely, kind and trustworthy family
We had a really fantastic time at Raymonde's place in Brussels - Her apartment is so spacious and airy, so light-filled and incredibly comfortable. We slept really well in cozy beds and had a great kitchen in which to cook anything we liked. The location of Raymonde’s apartment is terrific – it’s about a 12 - 15 minute walk from the Grand Place and about a 5 minute walk from Gare du Midi. it was really useful to be close to this station from which we were able to take the trains we needed to travel to Bruges, Antwerp and Luxembourg.
The area around Avenue de Stalingrad is friendly and lively and filled with cafes, restaurants and fantastic food shops - we had everything we needed within a few minutes’ walk.
Brussels is a wonderful city with an amazing array of interesting places and things to do - we felt so fortunate to be able to return to Raymonde's lovely home each evening after long and busy days - This for us was a really excellent exchange.
It was a pleasure to exchange homes with Raymonde - she was really helpful and all of her information and instructions were so clear. She very kindly asked a lovely friend of hers to greet us on arrival and he was able to go through everything so carefully and thoughtfully with us - we were very grateful for this really generous gesture.
We had frequent communications by e-mail and telephone beforehand and we were able to easily make contact with one another during the exchange itself if either of us needed anything - although we didn't get the opportunity to meet on this occasion, it was really a pleasure to interact with Raymonde all the way through!
While we were in Brussels, Raymond was in Dublin in our home and of course she left it in perfect condition as we knew she would! We would have no hesitation in exchanging with Raymonde at any time again in the future and highly recommend this lovely lady and her lovely home two other PLUers interested in visiting Brussels.
We had the most wonderful time in Lisa's home - it is the most restful, airy, comfortable house and we loved our stay here! We had everything we could possibly need - a terrific kitchen to cook in, very comfy beds and a very beautiful loving room with a huge couch and a stunning view of the gorgeous area in which Lisa lives. We loved Leo - the most independent and courteous cat we have ever met - we looked forward to meeting him every evening we came home. Onsala is a lovely area and you might be lucky enough to be there at a time when the observatory is open for visitors - we also loved nearby Kungsbacka and in the surrounding area there is everything one could need in terms of dining, shopping and lovely walks. Goteborg is 25 away by car and is a fantastic city - absolutely worth a number of days exploration. Some stunning islands are also nearby - many of which are accessible and truly worth visiting - we went to Marstrand and if we had time we would have explored more - this area of Western Sweden is extraordinarily beautiful and we will be back!
Lisa is a warm, lovely, kind and very gracious lady - communications were a joy all the way through our planning and we were so lucky to meet briefly at the airport - we would have loved more time to chat and get to know each other better! She and her friends were fantastic guests in our home - so understanding and generous and they left everything in perfect condition - we would be so delighted to welcome them back any time.
We had a really lovely stay at Martin and Friederike's home in Berlin in August 2022. Their apartment is spacious, airy and comfortable and we had everything we needed for our comfort and convenience. Their apartment is in a wonderful location - the beautiful leafy suburbs of the Schoenberg area - with a playground just across the road and lovely cafes, restaurants, grocery shops and public transport options within easy reach. The Gunthers' neighbours are warm and welcoming and so helpful and we felt very much at home and at our ease. We also exchanged cars and although we only used it twice during our stay it was great to be able to avail of it to travel to locations further afield - we really recommend a visit to one of the beautiful nearby lakes. We cannot imagine a lovelier place to stay than here when exploring this extraordinary city - we loved our time and it was a joy to exchange with Martin and Friederike!
Martin and Friederike were a great couple of exchange with - they had much more exchanging experience than us and we had two calls together before we arrived in each other's homes to meet each other and chant through all aspects of our exchange - this was really valuable and we learned lots of useful things! They had put together a really useful little handbook with information about their home, the area and Berlin which was very helpful and gave us great ideas about our own little handbook for our exchange partners! We knew our home was in excellent hands and they left everything in perfect order - they were so easy to communicate with, warm and kind and very trustworthy and reliable in every way - it was a pleasure to exchange with this wonderful couple!
Femke and Harm's home is so lovely! It is so comfortable, easy to live in and wonderfully relaxing and cooling during some warm and sunny weather in Drunen! We had everything we could possibly need - a great cook's kitchen, a gloriously comfortable couch where we curled up and read and watched great movies at night time and gorgeously comfortable beds! They have a pool outside which we loved and it was such a pleasure during the very hot weather to be able to cool down.
Their house is in a most convenient location too - we were a 5 minute walk from a bus station where an excellent and regular bus service brought us into the main train station of the capital of North Brabant - Den Bosch and from there we could take buses or trains to any part of the Netherlands. We loved Den Bosch itself - a great little city - the Design Museum and the North Brabant museum are really worth a visit. With ease and only using public transport, we also visited in and around Eindhoven, Tilburg, Delft, Deventer, Den Haag, Gouda, Amsterdam and Rotterdam - returning each evening to our lovely home from home - tired, happy and so grateful to have Femke and Harm's beautiful home in which to stay!
It was our first exchange here on PLU and it was such a pleasure to be able to stay at Femke and Harm's home - we consider ourselves very lucky indeed - we would exchange with them any time again and couldn't recommend them highly enough!
We were so delighted to be able to meet Femke and Harm briefly before they headed off to the airport - what a pleasure to meet this lovely couple whom we would recommend so highly as exchange partners! They were so warm and welcoming and gave us great information - from the beginning of our agreement with one another, it was so easy to communicate and Femke was very quick to respond any time to needed to communicate. They have their own home so wonderfully organised and comfortable and left our place in perfect condition - a wonderful couple - so trustworthy and reliable - top PLUers!
