The best thing about the location is that you’re so close to Asheville, yet this high-mountain village has a unique beauty and easy accessibility to outdoor adventure and peaceful contemplation.
The Big Ivy community is a true mountain paradise, with rushing creeks, waterfalls, deep cool forest paths, and gorgeous views of the Great Smoky Mts, all within a 5 mile radius. The last few photos were taken around here, at places anyone can walk along or drive to.
About a hundred yards down the road is an award-winning zipline, Navitat Canopy Tours. https://navitat.com/asheville-nc/
Bordering our town is the Big Ivy section of the Pisgah Nat’l Forest, with its 30 miles of trails and some well-known waterfalls. https://www.hikewnc.info/trails/big-ivy-coleman-boundary/
We are 30 minutes from The Blue Ridge Parkway, a unique 450 mile scenic drive through the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina and Virginia, and about the same distance from multiple river rafting and tubing outfitters along the French Broad River.
And you are less than 30 minutes from Asheville’s trendy restaurants, shopping, galleries, Art Deco architecture and more. As a national Beer City, Asheville is brimming with craft breweries, towered over by New Belgium and Highlands. Brewery tours, music and events are popular.
Below is one of the best overall guides to the Asheville area, including tours, surrounding towns, river tubing, and anything else you can think of:

Der Raum
The 750 sq.ft. apartment has been recently refurbished with new paint and new wood floors, appliances and kitchen countertops. Colorful accents and photographs and a clean, uncluttered look give the space a serene minimalist feel.
There’s a queen bed in the bedroom and a very comfortable, easy-to-open full-size futon in the living room. I also have an upholstered 6 inch foam trifold single mattress for a child.
The bathroom has a roomy tiled walk-in shower.
There is a stacking washer/dryer unit and ceiling fans in every room. There is no A/C, and it’s never been missed…
There is WiFi with a low-radiation router, but no TV.
The covered porch/deck has a round table and chairs and porch chairs for two.
Next to the front door is a raised bed with lettuce, greens and parsley ready to be picked in the Fall and Spring.
Across the road is a farm which sells eggs and fresh milk. You can order by text and pick up from their outside fridge.
There are gas station/convenience stores along Barnardsville Hwy, but regular shopping is in Weaverville, which is 15 minutes away and has grocery stores, restaurants and a Walmart, plus a weekly farmer’s market.
Gastzugang
This is a ground floor apartment which is completely separate and private from the upstairs, where a quiet young couple lives.
There are three 6 inch level changes to get into the place, and the living space is completely level with no thresholds.
I am working to make it more wheelchair accessible, so please contact me to see what accommodations can be made.
Anmerkungen
There is off-street parking for 2 cars, and if I am flying somewhere there would be an insured car for your use, but at this point I plan to be driving to an exchange.
You would definitely need a car to get here from the airport and to get around the area.

Zu mir nach Hause kommen
By car, 6 miles from Exit 15 off I-26 West 20 mi. from Asheville, and about 30 miles from I-40 near Asheville.
The closest airport is south of Asheville, about 45 minutes from here, but there are often better deals flying into Greenville, SC (1 1/2 hrs.), Charlotte NC (2 1/2 hrs.) or Atlanta GA (4 hrs.)
If you are flying you would need to rent a car unless we are exchanging cars.

I am a retired teacher and property manager of a small family rental business.
I love living in the beautiful high mountains of western North Carolina, and I also long to be at the beach in the Fall and/or Spring for a few days to a week—-preferably in the Carolinas/Georgia.
Ultimately I am hoping to find a recurring beach-mt exchange.
