General overview

We are situated approx 2.5 km from the ocean, in a small Sri Lanka village, away from the noise of the main road and railway line. We hear the ocean, but softly like a serenade. We have a walled and private garden, which is full of fruit trees and spices and birds. The garden is completely organic, hence we do not have a pool.

The space

There are two spacious bedrooms with large ensuite bathrooms. Each having, airconditioning and hot water showers. Each room has its own outside area, with courtyard gardens, and a fish pond.A formal lounge which looks out onto the front garden, and an informal tv and office room. The kitchen, casual dining, and informal sitting area is outside. There is also a laundry and outside bathroom, and a garage with a drivers room.

Guest access

There is a flight of stairs to the front entrance. The back access, through the garage, is reasonably level.

Neighbourhood

The neighbourhood is very parochial, Sri Lankan village life. Paddy fields, kades, buffalo and cow herds. Fresh milk straight from the cow is available every morning if you wish, along with Buffalo curd, which is a local delicacy. We have a stunning freshwater lake not far along the inland road. It is full of bird life and covered with masses of pink lotus blossoms which are picked every morning for the local temples. Towards the ocean, it is literally five minutes in a tuk tuk to one of the most famous surfing breaks on the south coast. Even if you dont surf, the surfers bring with them special communities that are into healthy eating and Yoga camps etc.

Getting around

We normally travel around locally in tuk tuks. We also use the buses, which are plentiful, or the train if we are heading to Colombo. Private taxis are available for long distance and are very reasonably priced, definitely treat yourself for long journeys.

Caroline

I am retired and currently divide my time between Sri Lanka where I have a house, and Perth, Western Australia where my daughters and grandchildren live. I am very interested in natural medicine and food. Our garden in Sri Lanka is full of organic fruits and vegetables. We have a wonderful garden that attracts a myriad of birds it is a very peaceful and tranquil, perfect for relaxing. We are 2.5 km from the beach. A pleasant walk if you are fit, or a short 5-minute tuk-tuk ride.
