General overview

Our comfortable and central apartment has easy access to all of the best places in the city. The apartment is quite small inside (60 sq m) but has two large balconies that are our summer living spaces (40 sq m and 20 sq m). The bigger balcony has large awnings for shade and the smaller on, an umbrella. Winter days can be lovely (May - September). Temperatures seldom go below 15 degrees in the daytime in winter - and night times, anything less than 10 degrees is very rare. Summers are hot and dry.

The space

We are in a secure block with great mountain views. Our outdoor space is set up with a barbeque (in South Africa - a "braai". The top balcony has a table and chairs and umbrella and is perfect for sundowners. We love children but we have an unguarded staircase to the top balcony and while the balcony railings are very strong and secure, I’d be concerned about adventurous little climbers! We are on the fourth floor above street level. Talk to us if you have a child in the age range we’ve blocked.

Guest access

We are on the top of four floors with lift access. We have 24 hour secure access to the block - you only have to check in with security on your arrival. After that you will have your own set of keys.

Notes

We are a water scarce area. However, since last 2019, water management has been much more effective than previously.

Neighbourhood

Our neighbourhood, edge of De Waterkant and Green Point, is in walking distance of the V&A Waterfront which is a big tourist attraction - working harbour, office blocks, homes and plenty of entertainment (movies, markets, a big wheel). It is also the start point for the Cape Town and Peninsula Red Bus Tours - which are a very good way to get yourself orientated in Cape Town. We are also in walking distance of two outstanding bakeries (Jason's and Giovanni's). Giovanni is more than just a bakery, he has an outstanding range of prepared deli hot food, coffees, cheeses, cold meats and Italian groceries. Our SPAR takes care of the rest!

Getting around

Walking distance to everything you need. Uber is also very cheap. We are also interested in including a car in the deal. We are on the MyCiti bus route - for summer, that takes you to all the beaches on the Atlantic seaboard - the glamourous ones - Clifton beaches 1 - 4, Camps Bay, Llandudno, Hout Bay. However, the water is very cold, and while I love swimming, I definitely don't do much of it in these waters.

Hilary

We love travelling to Europe and the East. Canada and New York are both on our bucket lists. We enjoy finding out about other cultures, art and food - and taking time to 'live like a local'. I used to teach art, so wherever I go, I look out for current exhibitions. I love to cook so local markets are really appealing to us. My partner and I are both self-employed and can work from anywhere in the world with a good strong wi-fi connection. We are semi-retired and becoming more free to travel anywhere and anytime. We are not bound by school holidays. Because we are usually doing a 'North-South' exchange (northern hemisphere to southern hemisphere) and it includes a long haul flight, we prefer a minimum of two weeks. Months that appeal to us March, April, May and September October, November. December to February in big cities only.
