General overview

Ours is a comfortable family home in picturesque North Vancouver. Within a 10-minute drive, we can be at the base of a ski hill, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, or even the beach. The same goes for downtown Vancouver, which is just over the Lion’s Gate bridge. A 10-minute walk from our house takes you to Lonsdale Avenue, full of shops and restaurants.

The space

We literally live with nature at our doorstep. Behind our home is a large, forested park, which gives us a beautiful green backdrop in summer or winter. Walking in its trails, you’d never realize you were in the middle of a city. Inside the home, it’s bright, comfortable and spacious. The main living floor is open concept with a big kitchen and island, dining room, living room (with fireplace), den with a Frame TV (so you don’t notice it’s a TV when it’s not on), and powder room. Upstairs, there’s the main bedroom with a large ensuite and queen-sized bed, along with our daughter’s room and another full bathroom. (We have an office on this floor as well, but we haven’t determined whether we’ll use it for storage during swaps yet or not.) The basement has huge windows, so it doesn’t feel dark at all. It has our guest room (which is another work-from-home space for us), along with a big media area and then the laundry room. While our outside space isn't that big, it's a lovely, relaxing patio to sit and have a quiet drink on. Or even roast marshmallows over the small firepit. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for eagles or owls, which we see and hear on occasion. For downtime inside: David works in the video games industry, so we have both a Playstation and Xbox, as well as a number of streaming services, like Netflix, Disney+, Apple+, and Prime Video.

Guest access

It's a 3-storey house with steps up to the front porch. For now, we have a lock box for keys and entry.

Notes

For downtime inside: David works in the video games industry, so we have both a Playstation and Xbox, as well as a number of streaming services, like Netflix, Disney+, Apple+, and Prime Video. And of course, super fast internet to power it all. :) Our cats, Basil and Monty, are big, friendly guys who like to spend their days exploring outside or sleeping inside. We let them come and go during the day but generally try to make sure they're in by nightfall.

Neighbourhood

Outdoor attractions like Grouse Mountain and Capilano Suspension Bridge are a 10-minute drive. Local ski mountains Cypress and Seymour are 20-30 minutes (both have extension hiking trails in the summer), and Whistler is just 90 minutes. Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver is 10-15 minutes, Kits Beach is 30, Jericho Beach/Spanish Banks is about 45, and Granville Island is 35-40 minutes. Grouse Mountain is wonderful winter and summer: https://www.grousemountain.com Capilano Suspension Bridge is so much more than a bridge. The whole park is just the most beautiful place to walk around, right in the middle of a rainforest: https://www.capbridge.com Mount Seymour is about a 20-30 minute drive east. Great skiing in the wonderful and gorgeous hiking trails in the summer with levels for every ability: https://mtseymour.ca Cypress Mountain, about 20-30 minutes's drive west, is the biggest of the local ski mountains, with the most terrain. It's also worth visiting in the summer for hiking trails and the Eagle Coaster: https://cypressmountain.com/eagle-coaster Deep Cove is a gorgeous, quaint little community that's about a 20-minute drive away. Perfect spot to go kayaking any time of year, then treat yourself to some Honey's Donuts after: https://vancouversbestplaces.com/north-shore/north-vancouver/deep-cove/ Stanley Park is just 10-15 minutes away, and I might be biased, but it ranks up there with the world's best city parks. Two beaches, a huge pool, spray park, mini railway, horse and trolley, totem poles, and loads of trails for walking or biking. There are a number of places to eat, too, and of course the Vancouver Aquarium. https://www.destinationvancouver.com/activities/stanley-park/ Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver is a local favourite with lots to do in the immediate vicinity: https://www.vancouversnorthshore.com/neighbourhood/ambleside/

Nearest airport

Vancouver International Airport, YVR, is the closest. It's about a 50-60 drive or taxi ride.

Getting around

While a bus stop isn't far from our home and you can walk to shops and restaurants, having/renting a car is the best way to get there and around to all the sites.

Leslie

We're Leslie, David, and Estella, a tidy family of three who have not exchanged homes before but have lived in many places and travelled to even more. We love to find new spots to explore, whether they're far away or close to our own home in North Vancouver, BC. We have two cats (Basil and Monty) that call our house home as well ... or at least it's where they come to eat and sleep when they're not out exploring themselves. To start, we're considering long-weekend exchanges near home (within 3-4 hours drive of Metro Vancouver) and we'll be looking into Mexico and Central America over the next year or two (Panama and/or Belize specifically). And possibly Europe as well, England (close to London where David's from) and coastal Spain).
