General overview

We lovingly restored a 300 plus year-old house, nestled in the picturesque village of Assignan, built on a hill near St Chinian, in the heart of a region steeped in history; the Languedoc. She's full of character, inside and out!

The space

Our home can comfortably accommodate up to four persons, on three floors of rustic French decor, with the addition of a spacious roof terrace, overlooking the vineyards and rolling hills beyond. Exposed stonework, large wooden beams, a classic winding staircase from cellar to roof terrace, fireplace, marble sink and original tiles preserve the antiquity and charm of her medieval essence.

Notes

Due to the winding staircase, our house would unfortunately not be suitable for wheelchair access.

Neighbourhood

There's no shortage of walking, hiking, biking paths which spread out every direction from Assignan. But if you want a cool drink in a hot spot, the tapas bar is right up the block! Tasty local food as well. Grand down to petit price, you'll also find a fine french cuisine restaurant, Thai bistro, bar and grill, bakery and brew pub. A traveling baker visits every morning with yummy croissants and fresh breads. The village is home to many vignobles - several being organic. To the northwest from Assignan, you can see the mountains of the Montagne Noir and to the south, on a clear day, the Pyrenees. Wandering through landscapes of vineyards while enjoying the scents of lavender, rosemary and thyme, you are on the edge the Parc Natural du Haut Languedoc, with its majestic views.

Getting to my home

International airports are within easy driving distance to Assignan - Carcassonne (45 minutes), Montpellier and Perpignan (1 1/2 hours), Toulouse (2 hours), and Barcelona (3 hours). Ryanair now flies direct to Béziers as well as Montpellier, Carcassonne and Perpignan. There is an excellent railway system (SNCF) with TGV connections (super-fast trains) from Paris and beyond to Béziers and Narbonne (both 30 minutes from Assignan). Almost as much as in its railways, France prides itself in a good road system, making the south of France accessible in a day's drive from the northern Channel ports. And now, thanks to the recent completion of the Millau Viaduct (an amazing, unique structure and tallest bridge in the world, linking Clermont-Ferrand to Béziers via the A 750 spur), the drive is conveniently smooth and direct.

Getting around

We can supply bikes but to fully enjoy the scenery, you will need to have a car.
