Neighbourhood

Our area is known as the 'Richmond District' and is on the west side of San Francisco. It is a quiet, safe, flat, family-friendly area, with the huge advantage of both being in the city and close to nature. Our house is sandwiched between the Presidio national park and Golden Gate park, within walking distance of the De Young museum, the California Academy of Science, Conservatory of Flowers, Botanical Gardens, and the Japanese Tea Garden. There are several playgrounds in the area and many, many ethnic restaurants (Chinese, Thai, Burmese, Moroccan, Japanese, etc.) within walking distance. Peet's coffee shop, Walgreens, Joe's Ice Cream, pizza parlor, etc. within a couple of blocks. The Presidio and Lincoln golf courses and a very scenic hike on the Land’s End Coastal Trail are nearby, as well as our favorite scenic beach - China Beach.

Getting around

A car is not essential, as the frequent bus services (bus #'s 31, 28, 38, 5) can bring you to downtown San Francisco, Ocean Beach and the Golden Gate Bridge in about 20-35 minutes in any direction. We have some bikes you can borrow and there are also bike-for-hire stands nearby. There are interesting walking trails all over San Francisco. If you hope to explore the Bay Area, we do have a parking space for one car in the garage and are just five minutes drive from the Golden Gate Bridge, with easy access to the Marin Headlands, Sausalito, Muir Woods, and the Wine Country (Sonoma and Napa). www.walkscore.com gives our address: "Walkscore of 98 - Daily errands do not require a car Transit Score of 71 - Nearby: 23 bus, 0 rail Bike Score of 83 - Flat as a pancake, good lanes"
