Our town (Thornbury, Ontario) is located on the edge of Georgian Bay in The Blue Mountains four season resort area. Known regionally as Ontario's Playground, you are close to hiking, swimming, skiing (XC and Downhill), fine dining and some of the best cycling (road and trail) in the country. Whether you are looking for active experiences or tranquil opportunities, our area has it all!
We have a Facebook page for our home that we're adding to now and then. Visit us for the latest! https://www.facebook.com/ThornburyHome/
The space
Our home is our principal residence. It is a comfortable two story property with a large fenced back yard, a deck with hot tub and pool, a gold fish pond and lovely gardens. We are a few blocks from Georgian Bay, centrally located and in a walkable part of town. It is a non-smoking home.
The main floor features an open-concept main living area, with a well-appointed chef's kitchen including induction cook top, convection oven, and dishwasher. There is room for eight at the dining room table, a wood burning fireplace to gather around in the winter, and a cozy living area with large TV and access to all the major streaming services.
The home features a lovely fenced back yard, a large deck with parasol dining area, a four-season hot tub, and an above ground pool (June-> September). We are open to hosting your dog- we have a dog ourselves, a hypo-allergenic Spanish Water Dog; she would be boarded for the duration of your stay. She is a very tidy dog - relatives who have allergies have stayed at our home without any issues.
There are three bedrooms (one with a queen bed, the other two with bunk beds) and 2.5 bathrooms. There is a washer & dryer in the lower level, another TV sitting spot and a games area. Please note that home upgrades are occurring now and then :)
Guest access
Both floors are accessed by stairs. The upper level is just a few stairs, the lower level a few more. The back decks are tiered with a few steps each.
Notes
We also have a pop-up tent trailer with everything needed for camping that sleeps six. You would be welcome to use it should your vehicle have the appropriate towing hardware (hitch & electrics). There are many camp sites in the area that I could recommend.

Neighbourhood
Our home is located a few blocks from Georgian Bay. A 10 minute stroll brings you to the Pier, which is great to jump off in the hot months. There are a number of beaches in the area, and the surrounding valley has some great secret water holes to swim in. Included in the exchange is access to two kayaks which are great on the bay, and on the local Beaver River.
Our town and county has a very active food community, with many excellent restaurants, a farmers market (summer), a large grocery store (a short walk away), cafés, ice cream shops and a very good cheese shop.
There are many activities available in the area. There are extensive hiking trails throughout the region, including the Bruce Trail, a famous trail that traverses the scenic Niagara Escarpment. In the winter, cross country skiing and snowshoeing takes place on many of the trails. We are about a 15 minute drive from Blue Mountain, a large public ski and snowboard hill with excellent facilities. In the summer, the area is a well known cycling destination (road and trail).
There are many public golf clubs in the area, including our local Par 3 municipal course that is a short walk away. The larger clubs are considered to be among the best in the province.
This is a great area to explore, and I would be happy to suggest excursions, places to go, and things to see. And if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Public transport is minimal; a car is a necessity.
Nearest airport

Getting around
Our town offers most everything you would require on a day-to-day basis and our home is within walking distance of groceries, the wine store, cideries, shops & services, the farmers market (summer), service stations, libraries, parks, beaches and trails. A variety of additional trailheads for hiking are a short drive from home.
For more shopping, Collingwood is a 20 minute drive, Owen Sound 30 minutes, Barrie 1 hour, and Toronto 2 hours.
