Do you already know the Pyrénées-Orientales or the Eastern Pyrenees? Well, the road routes in the south of France are breathtaking. A thousand and one medieval twists and turns in towns, villages, cloisters await us where several of the paths of the French Way of St. James still see pilgrims passing by. Perpignan is a small city with beautiful places to visit such as the Castillet, the old gateway to the historic center and the Cathedral of Saint Jean Baptiste. You should not avoid taking a walk along the banks of the river Têt and if you like shopping in this small town you will find all the stores you need. Dominated by the ancient fortress of the Viscounts of So and the bell tower of its Romanesque church, the village of Evol is considered one of the most beautiful in France. Getting lost in the small cobbled streets of this little village is a real luxury. The calm and relaxed atmosphere takes you back to another era, a period when globalization did not exist and people lived very simply. In an incomparable setting, Villefranche de Conflent is a walled village, nestled between mountains at the confluence of the Têt and Cadi rivers. It is a World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful villages in France, so it is well worth a visit if you plan a trip to the south of the country. After touring the ramparts and the stone streets full of little shops, a must-see in Villefranche de Conflent is Fort Liberia. From the top you have an incredible panoramic view of the place where Villefranche de Conflent is located, with the Canigó, the highest mountain in the Eastern Pyrenees, with almost 3000 meters high, in the background. To climb it can be done on foot or by 4×4 by a road or climb the subway of the 1000 steps, so called because of the number of steps that has this route. Mosset is another of the most beautiful villages. Surrounded by mountains, this French village is home to many interesting historical buildings to visit. Among them is the Tower of Perfumes. A place where you can play with your sense of smell. In addition, from this place you can enjoy the best views of the "Valle de la Castelana". If you are tired of walking and you feel like being carried on your back, you can always take a ride on a donkey. Or as they call them in these parts "unicorn donkeys".
