Important update about a security issue today

Phishing-style message sent to users

Hi everyone,

I want to let you know about a security matter we identified and resolved earlier today.

One of our members’ accounts was compromised by an attacker who gained access to their login details from outside People Like Us. Using that access, the attacker sent phishing-style messages to a number of other members from within the platform.

As soon as we detected unusual activity, we immediately secured the affected account, removed the malicious content, and blocked the attacker’s access.

Importantly:

  • No PLU systems were breached. The attacker did not gain access to our servers, databases, or platform infrastructure.

  • Only one user account was affected, and its access has now been fully locked down.

  • There is no evidence of wider risk to other accounts or to the platform.

Even though this incident originated outside PLU, we’re treating it seriously. Security is a priority for us, and we’re taking additional steps to strengthen protections and make suspicious activity even easier to spot.

What you can do

As always, please avoid clicking on any links that seem unusual, unexpected, or out of character for the member sending them. If anything seems off, let us know straight away through Support.

For extra protection, we also recommend:

  • Using a unique password for your PLU account

  • Updating your password periodically

  • Enabling multi-factor authentication when we release it (coming soon)

Our community is built on trust, and that includes digital safety. We’ll always be transparent when something like this happens, and we’ll keep improving our systems to protect our members. Thank you to everyone who reported the issue to us.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out — I’m always here to help.

Warm regards,
Drew
