Neighbourhood
Hobart is the capital of Tasmania, the heart-shaped island off the south-east coast of Australia. Hobart is Australia's smallest state capital, with not much more than 200,000 inhabitants, and this makes it unhurried and easy to get around.
It's the second-oldest of Australia's state capitals, with the wide and elegant Derwent River sweeping up from the Southern Ocean to cut Hobart in two, with the main city on the western side and smaller centres and suburbs on the east, while majestic Mt Wellington overlooks the city from the west.
Our home is located between the airport and the CBD. Daylight saving from October through to March means long, light evenings for al fresco dining, walking, sailing, tennis, bike riding or whatever takes your fancy. Winter brings a snow capped Mt Wellington and the world famous Dark Mofo celebrations that get Hobartiams out and about, even on the coldest evening.
Our home is a great base to explore nearby Richmond, the Huon Valley and New Norfolk and surrounds. Launceston is a 2 year drive and a visit to Bruny Island is a must if you are here for a few weeks.
Nearest airport
Hobart airport is about 15 minutes away.
Getting around
Our home on the Eastern Shore, just over the Tasman Bridge. There is a large shopping centre only 20 minutes walk from home.
The CBD and Hobart waterfront and restaurants are a short drive from us so you can catch the ferry to MONA, dine at world class restaurants or have a simple dinner of fish and chips from one of the floating punts as you take in the beautiful sights of the Hobart harbour.
With a simultaneous exchange the use of our car is certainly an option we are happy to discuss.
