Neighbourhood
Ardoch is within walking distance of several shopping areas that have great coffee shops (we Melburnians are very particular about our coffee!), with classy Italian, French, Chinese and Thai restaurants, and multiple pubs and late-night bars.
We are also close to St Kilda, a beach-side suburb easily accessible by tram.
Getting into the centre of Melbourne city is also easy by taking the tram along Dandenong Rd.
Nearest airport
The nearest airport is Melbourne Airport, about 50 minutes taxi ride away.
Getting Around
There is very good public transport.
Walk outside the main front gates of Ardoch and there is a tram line going directly into the city (about 25 minutes). To return, get a no 5 or a no 64 tram on Swanston St and alight at stop 34 (The Avenue) along Dandenong Road.
About 10 minutes walk away there is also the Windsor train station, which goes directly into the city and takes about 15 minutes.

We have just had a few days at Meredith’s charming home. Clear communication and a detailed home book is a key to great exchange. Her home is located in a great location close to the city with a tram stop conveniently located out the front about 280 meters from the front door. Would definitely go back again.
We had a wonderful stay at this cosy and comfortable apartment in St Kilda. The space had everything we needed. Meredith welcome manual has all the information and great recommendations.
The location is fantastic, with easy access to public transport and just a short trip into the heart of Melbourne. It made the perfect base for exploring the city and soaking up the St Kilda vibe.
We also loved the heritage-listed complex, full of character and charm, with its peaceful “village green” — such a unique and relaxing spot to return to each day.
Communication with Meredith was excellent throughout. Thank you Meredith and Jim!
Very happy that you had a good stay, Martha.
We loved staying at Meredith and Jim’s home. It is such a peaceful place you can easily forget it is within a stones throw of a busy major city. Their home is exceptionally well organised, cozy and quickly feels like home. Meredith and Jim couldn’t have been kinder, more generous or better at communicating. This is a high bar, but I hope all our exchanges are this good.
Thank you so much, Guy. So glad Ardoch worked for you!
Jim and Meredith were fabulous to exchange homes with. The home manual was excellent. Their home was lovely and in a great part of Melbourne. They left a very nice welcome note and a few treats - thank you! Excellent communication, beautiful tidy and clean home. And great people!
Thank you so much, Ali. This was our first experience of simultaneous home exchange and we certainly lucked out getting you! Your home is simply gorgeous, but more than this, you become like friends to us. Thank you for initiating the exchange!
Meredith and Jim are a really lovely couple, and they were exceptional guests and took great care of my place. We also had the chance to meet and get to know each other which I think is a very nice part of exchanging with PLU. We had a great time together; conversations were fun and enriching. Dear Meredith and Jim, Chiara and I are very happy to have met you, and we hope to see you again some time. You're always welcome back here in Munich or at the lake!
Meredith and Jim were excellent guests, leaving our home just as they found it. Excellent communication before the exchange. Meredith even cleaned out my “rotter” (vege drawer) as I forgot and the new veges arrived - thank you!
Veronica was a great guest. Although they didn't stay long, they communicated well and let me know that they made sure my apartment was neat and tidy when they left.
Guy's home is large and easy to move into and keep clean for a stress free holiday.
While it is within moderate walking distance of the main retail area of Bar, having one's own car would be a distinct advantage.
Among other things, this would enable visits to the Bar Old Town (Stari Bar) - not to be missed!
The property managers could not have been more helpful.
Everything went smoothly with Martha and Eugene. Bit hard to say more because Jim and I are in Montenegro at the moment!
We stayed in Uli's home for nearly 2 weeks. It was very comfortable (though the weather was a bit hot!) It's within easy walking distance to the underground, and the Munich train/underground system is extensive and easy to navigate.
Uli's apartment is on the first floor of a renovated older style home, situated in a lovely garden. The apartment is not large but is very well designed. There's access to a laundry in the basement and Uli ensured there were spaces for us to unpack during our stay.
Uli herself was exceptionally gracious as a host, inviting us to take the train an hour up to where she was staying in her traditional family home on the shores of Lake Chiemsee, and showing us around this stunning area.
We fell in love with Munich and its surrounds and would happily return for another stay.
Come back anytime! It has been a pleasure having you here.
From the beginning, Guy was a terrific PLU exchange partner.
We had some tradesmen come in to do some work (long in the making) and Guy was good enough to supervise them for us. A picture fell from its place on the wall and he let us know immediately and we agreed on what to do about it. A potplant died and he replaced it for us!
Before moving out, he sent us a video of our apartment to show all was clean and tidy - a nice touch other PLU members might consider!
We wil be staying at Guy's place in a week or so and I hope we can live up to his high standards.
Strongly recommend Guy as a perfect PLU partner.
Very comfortable newly built home, set in beautiful veggie and flower garden. Ali and Rob were kind enough to let us use their car, which allowed us to visit Akaroa (an hour and a half from CCh), which was a highlight. We really lucked out getting Ali and Rob as our very first home exchange hosts, as they could not have been more hospitable. CCh itself has largely recovered from the devastating 2011 earthquake, and it's wonderful to see how they've developed the place. Imagine having a clear water river running through your city, with Botanic Gardens a stone's throw away, and gorgeous little laneways, markets and restaurants all around. Simply stunning.
As it happened, for professional reasons Ali could not join husband Rob in the exchange but sent her son Tom instead. They looked after our place immaculately - could not be happier. Ali had to stay in CCh but was kind enough to move to a friend's place for the duration so we had their home to ourselves. But on a couple of occasions, she was also kind enough to play tourist guide for us, showing us some of the wonderful features of her beloved home town. Such a gem!
