Visit Brisbane in Winter - Beautiful one day, perfect the next. Our winter (northern summer) is the best time of the year to visit Queensland and avoid the summer heat (in both Australia and in Europe - 42.6°C in Paris!). In July 2019 daily maximum temperatures in Brisbane ranged from 19°C to 26°C, which is similar to London July average, but with many more dry sunny days and low humidity. Go for a swim - sea temperatures at Surfers Paradise in July averages 21.7°C (24.2°C in May).

O espaço

Ours is a traditional Australian home having a veranda out front and another at the back. It has 3 bedrooms, a study and two bathrooms. One bedroom is currently set up as a second study, but being a double sized room there is plenty of space to setup a single or bunk bed if required (let us know). The main bedroom has a queen size bed, ensuite and walk in robe and the other bedroom has a double bed. There is a formal lounge and dining room and a kitchen/meals and family/rumpus (entertainment system with large DVD, VHS and CD collection and a PlayStation). The laundry has a washing machine. No need for a dryer in sunny Brisbane. Internet - we have a fast broadband connection and network access from both studies and the entertainment system and wifi available throughout the house and back patio.

Easy access to house. 1 step up from driveway to front door. Bedrooms are located on this level at front of the property. Down three steps to lounge and kitchen/meals area and down one step to family/rumpus room and outside to alfresco dining and pool area.

Notas

The house has 24 solar panes (generating 6.4kw of electricity), a solar hot water system and the salt water chlorinator for the pool is run from the electricity generated by the solar panels on the roof. It is set by a timer to run during daylight hours. The pool will require little if any maintenance by our guest. An inground sprinkler system in the outdoor entertainment area will probably need to be turned on at the tap for a couple of hours each week, unless it happens to rain. Should a problem arise with the house, you require assistance or just need some local advice, our eldest son lives 15 minutes drive away and may be contacted.

Our home in Shailer Park is on a ridge with views from the front towards Mt Tamborine and from the back of the house over the trees. Located 5 minutes from the M1 giving quick 30 minute access to Brisbane City, Southbank Cultural centre, gardens and the Treasury Casino or turn south on the M1 and you are 45 minutes to the miles of golden sandy beaches of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. Dreamworld and Movie World (20 minutes) SeaWorld. the Star Casino and all the other attractions of Australia's premier tourist destination are easily accessed by car but far enough away not to intrude if of no interest. We are 20 minutes to Moreton Bay - the Redland Bay pub is a favoured venue for lunch sited on a rise overlooking the sparkling waters of the Bay and offers alfresco dining with good food at reasonable prices. Stradbroke Island is a short ferry ride away. Our local pub, Fitzy's, is 5 minutes by car and serves traditional Australian pub food and cold beers. The adjacent Logan Hyperdome is a large shopping mall with three major grocery retailers, medical centre, and a variety of small stores, a food court, cinema complex and public library. Mt Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland has cool rain forest walks, fine dining and magnificent views of the Gold Coast skyline and is only a 50 minute picturesque drive. A great fishing spot on the Logan River which flows into Moreton Bay is a 10 minute drive away from our home (you can use my rod and reel). Golfers are well catered for with the nearest golf course a 9 minute drive away and a total of 5 golf courses within a 15 minute drive. Doctors, dentists and large hospital all within 5 - 15 minute drive. Free community tennis courts, football fields, cricket nets and parkland all within 5 minutes drive.

Locomoção

Like many places in Australia, you will need a car to get around and visit places of interest. We offer a red 2.0 litre Kia Cerato automatic 4 door sedan as part of a house swap. There is a bus interchange at the Logan Hyperdome where you catch a bus into Brisbane City. The nearest railway station at Loganlea is a 15 minute drive from our place and connects Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Fizemos uma turnê de 6 semanas pelo Reino Unido em 2016, quando nosso filho e sua esposa estavam trabalhando em Londres. Minha esposa é historiadora da família e mapeamos uma trilha ancestral que nos levou ao Reino Unido - começando em Sherborne em Dorset, depois em Somerset, País de Gales, Yorkshire, Escócia, Northumberland. Lincolnshire, Sussex e Kent visitando centros de história da família, casas antigas onde um ancestral viveu e seu último endereço conhecido (o cemitério da igreja). Claro que com muitas paradas turísticas pelo caminho. Queremos nos aprofundar um pouco mais na história de duas áreas e também experimentar a vida cotidiana na área (em vez de algumas noites em um motel). Entre abril/maio e junho/julho de 2020, gostaríamos de ficar em Dorset por 4 a 6 semanas, seguidas de 4 a 6 semanas em West Yorkshire. Portanto, estamos procurando trocas consecutivas de casas nessas áreas. Além disso, entre trocas de casas ou no início ou no final de nossa estadia no Reino Unido, queremos um breve reconhecimento europeu ao Vale do Loire e Frankfurt para possíveis trocas de casas em 2021/22 para explorar nossas conexões francesas e alemãs.
