A single story apartment at the end of a row. Our lanai (deck) looks onto a large shared lawn with a huge banyan tree in the center. Manoa is one of the more desirable neighborhoods on Oahu, with close proximity to all of Honolulu`s attractions. A vigorous walk up hill at the back of the valley yields stunning views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. Shops, cafes, and a 3 days per week fruit and vegetable market are a 5-minute walk. The University of Hawaii campus, with its beautiful gardens and trees, is just down the street. The local park and swimming pool (free) is a ten-minute walk.
The space
Three bedrooms, two bathrooms set up for an adult couple and two kids, although changes could be made to accommodate one or two more (we have a high quality double air mattress).
Notes
The home is part of the University of Hawaii Faculty Housing complex, so all the neighbors are professors or other university employees. There are lots of kids of all ages playing around the complex, which is safely walled off from the surrounding roads. The shared laundry is about 20 meters away.

Neighbourhood
Manoa is an old Honolulu neighborhood in a beautiful valley just north of Waikiki. The population is primarily of Japanese and Chinese background, as evidenced by the stately Chinese cemetery halfway up the valley. A large public park with free tennis courts and swimming pools is only a ten-minute walk from the house. We have excellent coffee shops, restaurants, and one of the best poke places in the city within 5 minutes walk.
Nearest airport
15 minute drive to HNL.
Getting around
We would include a car as part of any exchange. We are also on several bus routes.
We had a marvelous 5-week simultaneous exchange with Frank and Kieko in their Honolulu apartment. Their home is perfectly located in Manoa with lots of great shopping and dining options just a few blocks walk from the apartment. The neighbors are friendly, the apartment complex is well-maintained, and the Manoa community is charming. The apartment itself was spotlessly clean and welcoming when we arrived and perfectly comfortable for our family. Communication with Frank and Kieko was friendly and easy - we are grateful for their many recommendations and Hawaii insider guidance, as well as the use of their car during our stay! We absolutely loved our time in Oahu exploring the island. We are so thankful for the opportunity to stay in Frank and Kieko’s home and enthusiastically recommend them for future exchanges. We’d return in a heartbeat!
Frank and Kieko were exemplary guests in our home during our simultaneous exchange. They made sure to communicate with us throughout their stay and took great care of our home and as well as our car. They were very responsive to our questions and concerns during the course of the exchange and we were confident that our house was in great hands. Our home was perfectly clean upon our return and we were touched to find their lovely parting gift to us as well. Thank you Frank and Kieko!
Kristin's home is a wonderful mid-19th century house, beautifully renovated to maintain its historic character while still meeting all the standards of a comfortable modern home. The large deck and yard, the firepit, and the lovely pastoral views make for a relaxed setting. We spent many delightful evenings grilling sausages (from the excellent Does' Leap farm near Bakersfield) and sipping wine on the deck while watching bluebirds and goldfinches flittering about in the yard. Burlington is about half an hour away, but most of our shopping and dining needs were taken care of in nearby St. Albans, which is only 15 minutes from Fairfax. For trail and wildlife enthusiasts, there are numerous hikes within half an hour's drive, and the Mount Mansfield trails are around 45 minutes away. All in all, it's an idyllic northern New England location, one we would be happy to return to any time.
Kristin and Tony were friendly, polite, and communicative. They took excellent care of our home in Honolulu; they even improved a few things, such as fixing an annoying issue with our car door! When there was a small problem with our vehicle, they were in touch right away and took the trouble to take it in for an inspection. They left the apartment in perfect condition, and we would be extremely happy to host them again in the future.

I'm Australian, my wife is from Vermont, and somehow we ended up halfway between those two places--in Hawaii. For the summer of 2022, we hope to spend several weeks in Germany, although we are also willing to consider other parts of Europe.
"Any time between early June and mid-August. Other parts of Europe would also be of interest."
