Achill Island is on the west coast of Ireland, located on the Wild Atlantic Way and accessible to the mainland by a bridge. It is a popular with outdoor enthusiasts with opportunities for surfing and other water sports. Achill offers spectacular hiking opportunities and boasts some of the largest sea cliffs in Europe. It is also close to the Greenway, a popular cycling trail. We are in the Gaeltacht and Achill hosts summer Irish speaking programs as well as cultural events like the Harp Festival.
The space
The original cottage has been expanded and modernized, with 3 bedrooms that sleep six and three sitting rooms. One of the sitting rooms has an open fire, and the other two have wood burning stoves. We are steps from the sea, which can be viewed from one of the sitting rooms. The kitchen has modern appliances, the master bedroom has a WC, and the house has a wet room/shower room and a full bath.
Guest access
There is one floor, but there are a few steps to get in both the front and the back door.
Notes
Our village is quiet, and we love our neighbors. They are very friendly and helpful, and we ask our guests to be respectful.

Neighbourhood
We are in the village of Dooega on the quiet side of the island, in a valley surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on the fourth. The village has one pub open in the summer season and on weekends from Sept-December. People love to walk in our village up the coast road and on the side of the mountains where you get lovely views.
Getting around
You will need a car as we are very remote and while there is bus service on to the island it only stops in Achill Sound and Keel. The closest shops are in Achill Sound, about a ten minute drive. There is superb hiking, and we are about 45 minutes in a car from the popular towns of Westport and Castlebar.
