Neighbourhood
The music, the food, the historic architecture, the shopping...there is just something special about the French Quarter! With the clip-clop sound of the mule-drawn carriages, the melody of the riverboat paddle wheeler's calliope, and the talent of the street musicians, there really aren't many other places like it in the world. Our home is located in the very middle of it all on the 900 block of St. Peter Street.
The most common definition of the French Quarter includes all the land stretching along the Mississippi River from Canal Street to Esplanade Avenue (12 blocks) and inland to North Rampart Street (nine blocks)
From Wikipedia: The French Quarter, also known as Vieux Carré, is the oldest neighborhood in the city of New Orleans. When New Orleans (La Nouvelle-Orléans in French) was founded in 1718 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the city was originally centered on the French Quarter, or the Vieux Carré ("Old Square" in French) as it was known then. While the area is still referred to as the Vieux Carré by some, it is more commonly known as the French Quarter today, or simply "The Quarter." The district as a whole is a National Historic Landmark, and contains numerous individual historic buildings. It was affected relatively lightly by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, as compared to other areas of the city and the greater region.

Getting around
For exploring outside of the French Quarter, our home is located only two blocks from the Rampart Streetcar Line and only a few blocks from Canal Street where you can catch the St. Charles Streetcar and ride through the beautiful Garden District or walk a few blocks the other direction to Frenchman Street and hear some world-class jazz.
