Neighbourhood
Our house is located in a quiet residential area of Grootebroek, 10 minutes walk from the beautiful IJsselmeer and its swimming beaches. The nice historic cities of Enkhuizen, Medemblik and Hoorn are in the immediate vicinity. These medieval towns are ideal for eating, shopping, and sailing on the IJsselmeer, making a boat trip or visiting museums (see also www.westfriesland.nl). In the immediate vicinity of our property there are various supermarkets like Lidl, Spar and deck market, and there is also a shopping center with restaurants and a good ice cream parlor.
Our house is about 10 minutes walk from the train station, from where every half hour the train takes you to the center of Amsterdam or Alkmaar in 45 minutes. Alkmaar is famous for the cheese market. Also Edam (cheese market) and the famous fishing village of Volendam are 40 minutes away by car. It is possible to go to the North Sea beach with its beautiful sandy beaches and dunes (about 60 minutes drive). The island of Texel is also a place where you must definitely go for a day out.
In Enkhuizen, SprookjesWondersland is a place for small children (see website http://www.sprookjeswonderland.nl). Another attraction in Enkhuizen is the Zuiderzeemuseum (old Dutch buildings, see http://www.zuiderzeemuseum.nl). In Hoorn and Medemblik, the Museum of Steam Train Hoorn-Medemblik is admired (see www.stoomtram.nl). In addition, various boat trips, sailing trips and tours can be made from these cities, or even the historic triangle with the steam train / boat / train can be taken from our village.
Nearby are a tropical swimming pool (Enkhuizen or Horn), various public indoor playgrounds, an indoor karting track (within walking distance), whistle boat rental, Streekbos (nature reserve) and various beautiful other beautiful spots.
Nearby, in spring (April / May) there are often full fields with beautiful tulips, although the cows are of course also typical Dutch (see pictures). Our property is excellent for hiking, cycling, and geocaching.
In short, lots of fun in the immediate area.
Please note that, in addition to Schiphol, cheaper fare flights can be used at the airports of Groningen (147km 1h50min drive), Rotterdam (122km 1h31min drive), Eindhoven (181km 2h02min drive), or Maastricht (263km 3h00min drive).

We are a family with a semi-detached house in a rural village in North Holland (approx. 60 km from Amsterdam). We like to travel with home exchange, also for long weekends in the NL/BE/D region.
We like to travel in sunny and warm climates, but also in the mountains and nature.
