Neighbourhood

We are situated on Lake Ontario in Prince Edward County known as “The County” and water is never far away. It is actually an island and our town is called Carrying Place because it was the location of a portage in the past. There is currently a swing bridge on the road in to allow boats to traverse between waterways via the Murray canal. Most water access is in provincial parks and the most famous is Sandbanks Provincial Park with lovely sand beaches. There is also nearby Presqui’le Park with boardwalks, known for its bird life. The nearest towns for grocery shopping are Trenton and Belleville but there are also the small towns of Wellington, Bloomfield and Picton with restaurants and gift shops. For those that love walking the “millennium Trail” follows old rail tracks on a maintained trail crossing the entire county by foot or bicycle. Local wineries, breweries and cideries host visitors in season. Day trips to Kingston and cruising the Thousand Islands of the St. Lawrence River should be included in your plans.
