General overview
A family and kid friendly 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home offering the best of everything - city, mountains, beaches, and home comforts.
Our home is located in the suburb of Seattle called Des Moines, Washington.
Des Moines is a waterfront community located equidistant between two of biggest cities in Washington - Seattle and Tacoma.
There are many beaches near our home. Des Moines offers some of the largest and longest access to the Puget Sound in the area.
The Des Moines Beach Park and Marina is a ten minute walk from our house. At the marina is a bar/cafe called the Quarterdeck that has waterfront views, light fare, coffee, and wine. There is a long pier to walk out on and fish from. There is a large grassy field for children to play on, the beach to splash in and build sand castles or look for crabs. There are many festivals and music events at the Des Moines Beach Park through the year. During summer months there is a Saturday morning farmers market.
There is also a state park called Saltwater State Park (5 minute drive from our house) with a beach, picnic tables, hiking trails through the forest and by a creek, and a playground.
There are many restaurants and stores located in our city. Within a 10 minute walk from our house is a mini donut, coffee shop, sports bar, dollar store, and arcade.
Seattle - From our home it is a 10 minute drive to Seattle, and 25 minute drive to the downtown core of Seattle. A five minute drive from our home to the Angle Lake Light Rail Station Park & Ride, and then take the light rail to downtown.
Traveling further out, our home is a 1-2 hour drive to mountains and hiking. During winter months, skiing and sledding on the mountains is available. During summer months, there are many hiking opportunities for various skill levels.
We are a 1.5 hour drive to Mt Rainier, the highest volcanic peak in the contiguous USA. It has the largest alpine glacial system outside of Alaska and the world’s largest volcanic glacier cave system in the summit crater.
SeaTac Airport - our home is conveniently located near SeaTac airport, about a 10 minute drive.
The space
First/Main Floor
The main level of our home features a kitchen that was remodeled in spring 2023. It has a fridge, oven, stovetop, microwave, dish washer, coffee maker, and Ninja smoothie maker. We have everything you need to make a large family meal - pots & pans, sharp knives and knife sharpener, crock pots, mixer, etc. We also have kid friendly items such as plastic sippy cups, plastic kids plates, plastic kid utensils.
The kitchen opens to a great room space. This area has a dining table with seating for 8 people. We can provide a high chair if needed.
This space also has a family room with a sectional couch and smart flat screen TV with various streaming options.
This room opens to an elevated deck with outdoor table seating and a view of surrounding area and Mt Rainier. The deck also has a BBQ grill.
We also have a kid playroom, featuring two desks and various toys, puzzles, and art supplies.
The living room has two sofas and a gas fireplace. The window has a view of Mt Rainier.
There is a half bath with toilet and sink on the main level.
Second Floor
Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms.
Primary bedroom has a king bed, 2 night stands. There is an en-suite bath with shower, sink, and toilet. This room sleeps 2 people.
One bedroom has a twin bunk bed. There is an option to put an additional mattress on the floor next to the bunk bed for more sleeping. There is a desk, desk chair, 2 chest of drawers (we normally leave items inside the chest of drawers). There is a bookshelf full of children’s books. This bedroom sleeps 2-3.

And there is one chest of drawers (we normally leave items inside). There is a small bookshelf loaded with children’s books. This room sleeps 1-2.
We have a pack n play travel size crib available if needed.
Off the hallway there is a bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower/bath tub.
The basement is a day lighted basement with access to the backyard. There is a two adult office set up, with 3 monitors (HDMI cord hookup) available if you bring your own laptop/computer. We have high speed fiber internet as we both regularly work from home. There is a laundry room area as well as a second refrigerator. The fireplace in the basement is decorative and does not turn on.
Our backyard is fully fenced. There is a kid play structure with a slide and two swings. There is a grass area and concrete pad which are both great for kids to play sports or ride bicycles around.
Guest access
Note our Au Pair lives in the basement bedroom and bathroom. She may be here when you are here (will be confirmed and discussed in advance).
Notes
We have two chill indoor Ragdoll cats and one dog. The cats are easy as just require food/water, some pets, and sand scooping. They must stay inside.
Dog will be boarded elsewhere during an exchange, unless arranged as a hospitality pet sitting stay. This will be discussed and confirmed in advance.
Cleaning - Our home will be professionally cleaned before and after your stay. Cleaners normally arrive at 10 am on departure day. We do ask guests to accomplish the following prior to departure to keep cleaning costs low: strip bed linens and place used linens/towels in white plastic laundry bins; empty trash and recycling and place in appropriate bins in driveway; place used dishes in dishwasher and turn on dishwasher; and, return items to where you found them (toys in toy bins, remote controller in holder under TV, etc). We prefer to stay at homes that have a professional cleaning option and are happy to pay cleaning fees!
Security Ring Cameras - we have exterior cameras at front door, front yard/driveway, and side yard entrances. There are no interior cameras.

Our home is a 10 minute walk to Des Moines beach park and marina. 5 minute drive to Angle Lake light rail station. 10 minute drive to Seattle, 25 minute drive to downtown Seattle, 10 minute drive to SeaTac Airport.

We've just returned from Dena and Michael's home and look forward to hosting their family in August when they come to Southern CA. Their home was very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was gorgeous with beautiful views and super convenient to cook and prepare meals in. We loved their town of Des Moines and walked to explore it every morning while visiting all the local coffee shops. We had everything we needed for a great exchange and noticed it would be great for families with a nice outdoor space to use in warmer weather. The location was super convenient to SEA-TAC airport and visiting both the Seattle and Tacoma areas. Thanks for everything. -

Dena has a centrally located home to explore the whole Seattle and Tacoma area. Her home is clean, organized, well-equipped for a family, with a newly remodeled kitchen and toys to play with. The home gets lots of natural light and sits at the base of a small hill. If you hike just up the street, you get sweeping views of Mt Ranier and the Puget Sound---really beautiful in the mornings! Dena was easy to work with, flexible, and communicative. Here 2 friendly ragdoll kitties were good company. Thanks for a great stay Dena! We look forward to hosting you in the future. -
We had a great stay here. Perfect home base for a young family and we loved the teleworking set up. Dena's communication was excellent all along the way. They have two of the sweetest cats 😍 so something to keep in mind for those with an allergy. The home is well equipped and a great location with proximity to a lot with a great local town full of excellent small businesses (coffee shop, meat market, restaurants, etc.) -
I had a great time at this lovely house with my three daughters. Great location close to the airport, very surprising to get in our rental car and have a quick drive to the home. It was also closer to downtown than I originally thought. I took my daughters to two mariners games while here. One we drove to Angle Lake light rail and parked, this is less than 5 minutes away. My daughters found the light rail ride exciting, definitely some unique city folk on the light rail. Second time we drove, driving to the game took about 20 minutes to parking and we followed Dena’s advice for where to find secret free parking. Would recommend and stay here again! -
We had a great time staying at Dena’s house! She was easy and prompt et communicating. Easy drive to Seattle and near beach that our kids enjoyed exploring. Highly recommend.
