Our home is located in the charming pueblo of La Herradura, which in Spanish means ‘horseshoe,’ aptly named for the shape of our bay. La Herradura is on southern Spain’s Costa Tropical, a decidedly green and lush microclimate on the Mediterranean coast.
There is a traditional old town, with a maze of alleys to get lost in, and the main beachfront where most of the restaurants, bars and businesses are. La Herradura is a ‘free tapa town’ which means with every drink you order you get a beautiful snack along with it. The beach is sandier in parts and rockier in others, and there are numerous secret spots for more privacy. We are flanked on one side by a national park, with ruins, trails and amazing beaches with caves and waterfalls. Our bay is famous for scuba diving and other water sports, as it remains very calm and the water is crystal clear.
The town is surrounded by mountains with ample hiking, secret swimming holes and waterfalls, and other towns of interest including Nerja and Salobreña. Granada City is 50 minutes drive away, with its Alhambra and haunting arts and music scene. Malaga city is also 50 minutes away, connected well by air to most cities in Europe. We are well connected by bus to Malaga and Granada so a car is not vital, however we recommend one so you can explore the surrounding areas.
Our house is located in the old part of the village, accessible by car with a garage. It’s well-equipped with everything you need. The kitchen/living room have a large balcony that looks out over the sea and hillside. We have a toddler so it’s baby-proof.
There are three bedrooms and it sleeps six comfortably. There is also a full size desk you can use for work.
The private top terrace is expansive and has literally the best view in town. There are a couple sun beds and table and chairs.
It takes two minutes to walk down to the businesses and beach since we are up on the hill. It’s a pleasant, peaceful walk.
We have two different wifi networks that we use for work. They are sufficient for video calls etc.
It’s a quiet spot, no noise from bars or neighbors, and the real pull is the incredible view. We have AC but it’s usually not needed, the fans are enough most days because we get a nice sea breeze.
There is a baby cot available and an extra mattress to put on the floor. Buggy available and also toddler toys and books.
Will be happy to help you settle in and introduce you to the vibrant expat community here.
