Neighbourhood
Pukawa is a small holiday area on Lake Taupo. It is popular in the summer as it is lakeside and offers safe swimming & boating. It's also popular in the winter as it is a good place to base yourself for skiing on Mt Ruapehu.
It's close to the tourist attractions of Tongariro National Park with it's fabulous summer hiking/tramping (Tongariro Crossing) & winter snow skiing/boarding (Whakapapa/Mt Ruapehu).
Thermal baths, hot mud pools and fabulous trout fishing are all within 15 minutes by car.
The closest town is Turangi (bank, supermarket, information centre, library, shops, bistro/restaurants, medical centre and a golf course) - it is a 15 minute drive from our house.
Taupo with it's restaurants, shops, golf course & tourist activities is only a 45 minutes drive. Rotorua and further afield are all possible as a day trip.
A car is essential as public transport is extremely limited.

Our closest town is Turangi - a car is essential. There is a small local store (15 minute bush walk).

We can be available to show you some local sites or maybe even take you out fishing but please be aware that this will required us to stay overnight with you at the house. Several of our guests have enjoyed this - others prefer their own space - we will fit around your requirements.
