High in the Alps at 1000 meters above sea level, this chalet offers a unique off-the-grid experience. It gives you the impression of being secluded from everyday worries, nestled cosy in your home away from home. There are endless adventures to be had here with stunning landscapes, nature and wildlife. Formally an old barn, the chalet was renovated by a very talented carpenter using ancestral techniques. The terrace and natural pool are great in the summer while the sauna and cozy fireplace are wonderful in the winter. The views from the front room are sublime any time of year. If you like hiking, skiing, animals, mushroom picking, fresh eggs or relaxing in front of a fireplace, this place is for you.
The space
The chalet is two stories with the living room and kitchen upstairs. The bedrooms and bathroom are downstairs. The Mystic Marmot is an off-grid adventure with all the modern amenities in a way you wouldn't expect. All the electricity is powered by solar panels and stored in a large battery bank. The water comes straight from the mountain spring into your chalet. The radiators and water are heated using a sophisticated fireplace, pump and hot water tank system.
Guest access
The chalet is at the end of a 900 meter forestry trail and inaccessible by vehicle except with a good 4X4. The hike, however, is beautiful and only takes 10-15 minutes. When there is snow driving is out so it is best to have good boots, and in extreme cases, to use the snowshoes we provide.
Notes
The long term goal of the mystic marmot is to become completely self-sufficient in food as well as water. Therefore, we have a large permaculture garden and you have access to the extensive herb garden, fresh laid eggs and other vegetables during certain seasons. There are numerous animals on the property including two dogs, a cat, three sheep and many chickens. There is someone staying next door to take care of all these creatures but they are still happy to socialize with whoever is staying here. The chalet sits on an immense 12 hectare property deep in nature and surrounded by mountains. It overlooks an expansive valley that stretches all the way to Grenoble. From just above the property you get an incredible view of Mont Blanc.
