Pictures don't do justice to this charming cabin located just outside the El Dorado Desolation Wilderness. Large front deck for prime viewing of Lover's Leap and Hogsback granite mountains at sunset (see profile pic). Many outdoor activities nearby including: rivers, alpine lakes, waterfalls, hiking trails, mountain biking, rock climbing and fishing. Built originally as a summer cabin, but fall and spring are ideal times if you want to beat the crowds.
The cabin is approximately 900 square feet (including the loft), with a large front deck and two smaller patios out back. One small bedroom with a queen bed downstairs. Very large loft with a full bed, queen bed, and a trundle twin bed. There is also a very large Lovesac Pillowsac that can sleep one adult or two children in the loft. Downstairs there is a sleeper sofa in the living room. Comfortably sleeps 6 (2 in bedroom, with 4 in loft), but we have hosted up to 8 people (two families of 4). No washer or dryer at the moment, but plenty of laundry facilities in nearby South Lake Tahoe. Fire circle out back with log seating for bringing everyone together around the campfire. Other amenities include BBQ grill, fireplace, wifi internet, surround sound, flat screen TV (but no cable), fishing gear, beach chairs, and lots of board games and videos. Only drawback is the road noise from nearby Highway 50 that can be heard when on the front deck (but generally not inside).
Right off highway 50. Short dirt road, with extra parking on adjacent highway turnouts. Depending on the situation, guests could use our Jeep Wrangler.
The cabin, built in the 1930s, has a historical rating with many original features. As such, it has some unusual quirks (i.e., old locks, surface as opposed to well water), which we have documented for our guests. We live nearby in case any assistance is needed. It can potentially be used in the winter, only 20 minutes from Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort, but there is no running water in winter due to frozen pipes.
The area is reminiscent of Yosemite Valley, but without the crowds. Just across the way is Lover's Leap, and up the road is the Pyramid Creek trail to Horsetail falls. Rock Creek trail to Pyramid Peak is just steps away. You can see mountain climbers scaling this granite faces from the front deck. South Fork of the American River within walking distance, with lots of great swimming holes, and trout fishing too. World class whitewater rafting an easy day trip. South Lake Tahoe only 20 minutes away, with endless outdoor activities and beautiful beaches. Stunning stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail just up the road, near Echo Lake.
Car is a must. No public transport. General store and café within walking distance. Nearest supermarket is in Meyers, approximately 15 minutes away.
