Pelion is considered the secret hideaway of the Greeks. It does not feel touristy, but you can still find all of the amenities you would want. As of summer 2019 there are now seasonal direct flights to Volos from the UK and Germany, so we are seeing more tourists during the summer months. Often many of the small beaches are deserted and you will have them all to yourself! To reach our villa, you must travel for about two miles or 3.5 km on a dirt road. There are only a few other houses on the entire road, and none that you can see from the house.
Every corner of Greece is filled with amazing cultural and historical significance. Pelion is no different. Known as the land of the Centaurs and renowned for Jason and the Argonauts, Pelion played an integral part of Greek Mythology. A mere 15 minutes away you can experience the beauty and serenity of a restored 12th century monastery called Moni Paou. In the city of Volos you can visit two different archaeological digs or browse the Museum of Volos featuring many antiquities from the area. An easy day trip and one not to miss are the famous hanging Monasteries of Meteora. You will be astounded at the ingenuity of the ancient Greek monks!
Most people will fly into Thessaloniki (SKG) which is the closest airport and rent a car from there. Thessaloniki is about 3.5 hour drive, Athens is approximately 5 hour drive. There are reliable train and bus routes as well into Volos which is the closest "big city."
https://camping-sikia.gr/en/howtoreach/ This site updates flights and travel info regularly. My house is about 20 minutes further than Sikia Camping--but you can see all the travel options.
If you visit during the wet season (approx. Oct-Jan) you should consider renting a 4x4 as the house is located on a dirt road.
