General overview

This is a gorgeous one-of-a kind, very unique architectural gem. Perched high on a mountain, it has phenomenal views of the Mad River Valley. It was built in the 1960's as part of an intentional community and architectural movement known as "Prickly Mountain." Just minutes from two fabulous ski areas, it is a wonderful ski getaway, for either downhill or cross-country. In the summer, there is hiking and mountain biking and crystal clear mountain streams and lakes. There are wonderful local restaurants with fresh local organic foods nearby. It is an inspiring and creative space to be in, perfect for a writer's or artist's retreat. There are a lot of stairs, so not great for toddlers or anyone with concerns navigating stairs. https://www.sightunseen.com/2015/10/the-houses-of-prickly-mountain-from-collective-quarterly-2/

The space

This is a four story house, with living room kitchen and dining room on the first floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor, and a master bedroom and bath on the third floor, and a loft with a queen bed on the fourth floor loft. The loft is an open space that looks over the master bedroom. Incredible views from all rooms.

Guest access

There are a lot of stairs, and it is four stories high, so not great for toddlers or anyone with concerns navigating stairs.

Notes

This is a funky fun house, but also eccentric and not mainstream. If you are looking for suburban aesthetic, this is not that!

Neighbourhood

Our house is in Warren, Vermont, which is located in the Mad River Valley. Warren is a beautiful ski town nestled in the Green Mountain of Vermont. Mad River Glen Ski Area and Sugarbush Mountain are minutes away, and offer great downhill skiing and snowboarding. There are many mountain hikes and swimming holes in the summer. Farmer's markets and fresh food restaurants are everywhere, and homemade ice cream is abundant. Foliage is spectacular in the fall months. This house is part of a 1960's architectural hub with whacky hippy houses, called Prickly Mountain. https://www.sightunseen.com/2015/10/the-houses-of-prickly-mountain-from-collective-quarterly-2/

Getting around

A car is a must. Shopping is a 10-15 minute drive away. There is a small local East Warren Market, but you have to drive.

Member description
I am a 51 year-old mom of four nearly grown children, and am now wanting to see much more of the world! I have been a private investigator, working hard in Vermont for over 20 years. I love to travel, and enjoy sharing my unique 4-story mountain house with other adventurers. I love people and adventures, and am interested in spending the second half of my life traveling all over the world, sometimes with my husband, sometimes with my children, and other times with my sisters and friends, so please don't be shy about suggesting any exchange. I look forward to hosting you!
