Manchester is a fab city, it was voted the best city in the UK last year by the Economist, and 35th in the world. Its not as busy as London but has loads to offer for a holiday, both inside and outside the city. The nightlife and music scene are excellent, as are the restaurants (from casual to Michelin starred). There are amazing art galleries, theatres and buildings, The Christmas markets are world famous and there is so much to do for children from a ski dome with real snow to climbing walls and child friendly museums (nearly all museums are free, as an added bonus!). There are arenas for big name concerts, and Manchester is, of course, a football city. Old Trafford, home of Manchester United and Manchester United's Ethiad stadium, as well as the football museum are musts for football fans. You can also watch the cricket test matches at Old Trafford in summer. You don't need a car here but if you have one, the motorway network is great in this region so you can make easy day trips). Northerners are known for being friendly and down to earth (we moved here from London and noticed a massive difference in that regard! Northerners seem to have more time - they are not always rushing everywhere). We are 5 minutes walk from Didsbury village, which has numerous shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. There are even a couple of fish and chip shops if you want to partake in an English delicacy! There are also lots of pubs, many of which do great Sunday roast dinners. Manchester is great for vegetarian and vegan food too- there are always options on the menu.

We are less than 15 minutes from Manchester airport. We are also close to the M60 and M56 motorways, meaning we are very well connected for amazing day trips: to places like York, Chester, Liverpool, the beautiful Lake District, Northern Wales, the Peak District (great hiking and cycling trails) and the beautiful English villages of Cheshire with their ancient pubs and churches, are very close as well. The historic Chatsworth House (of Pride and Prejudice fame) is an easy day trip away, as are the Yorkshire moors. There are numerous national trust, historic properties close by, including castles in Northern Wales and Cheshire, the deer park Dunham Massey, and Quarry Bank mill, an old cotton mill that is now a museum and stunning park. We're also a 15 minute drive from the Trafford Centre (Europe's biggest shopping Mall). It is accessible by public transport too. It has an indoor Legoland and an aquarium for children. Public transport is great- there are buses and trains, as well as the tram close by. Alton towers and C-beebies land are an hour away. There are football and language schools. You have everything you could want, basically! And, just in case you run out of stuff to do in this region, London is 2 hours away on the train!
