General Overview
Living right in the historic centre of Tomar, just 2 minutes stroll to the main square and beautiful cathedral is exactly what we were looking for when we moved from Australia to Portugal. Our home is full of character, comfortable, and has enough room to spread out a little. It's not overly posh, but we love it.
The Space
Our home has 3 levels. On the ground level is living, dining, kitchen. bathroom and courtyard with a small splash pool. Off the courtyard is the laundry. The first floor has the first bedroom, main bathroom, spare bedroom currently used as a study, and TV / sitting room. The second level has two bedrooms and a small balcony.
Guest Access
The house consists of 3 floors. Ground floor is one small step from street level. The stairs to the first floor and second floor are quite steep and not suitable for small children, or anyone not accustomed to stairs.

Neighbourhood
At the end of our street, just one minute away, is a walking street with various restaurants. Turn the corner and you in the "Corredora", the main walking and shopping street of the old town with more restaurants and cafes. Stroll up to the castle on the hill, walk through the expansive forest "Mata dos Sete Montes" or visit the magnificent Unesco listed Convent of Christ. (All of these landmarks featured in the Netflix film "Damsel"). Head off to Lisbon by direct train or bus, or drive in about an hour and a half. Alternatively, you can drive to the famous beach town of Nazaré in just under an hour.
Getting to my home
From Lisbon, Tomar can be reached by direct train from Santa Apolónia station, or Orient station, or by bus from various locations. The train or bus takes about 2 hours and driving about an hour and a half. There is free parking near the train station and a very affordable parking station 2 minutes walk from our house
Nearest airport
Lisbon Airport is the closest airport.
Getting Around
Walking is the best way to see Tomar, but there are plenty of nearby towns and places of interest. For example the university town of Coimbra is well worth a look, as is historic Batalha, or quaint Óbidos.

People Like Us Local Guide
We have been living in Tomar for a couple of years and have travelled quite a bit around Portugal. We can offer tips on restaurants, cafes, things to do, transport options (we don't drive in Portugal so we know about other means of transport), plus a few insights into living in Portugal.
