General overview

This is a light-filled view home with many French doors, patios, a kitchen deck, an upstairs balcony, and gardens with many sitting areas located near the Oakland/Berkeley border. All rooms offer San Francisco Bay views with the exception of one bathroom (this one has a view of the huge rock formation in the front of the house). We are four blocks to College Ave. with shopping and restaurants; six blocks to buses and metro. East Bay Regional Parks are within a 15 minute drive for nice hiking or mountain biking.

The space

This is an early 1920's home, one of the original homes built in this neighborhood. There are hardwood floors throughout and several charming areas for outdoor dining. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms available, each with queen size beds. An office is located upstairs. One bathroom has a shower, the other a tub.The Wedgewood stove in the kitchen has been restored; there is a full set of dinnerware and flatware, plus the other necessary cooking tools. There is also an upright piano in the living room. There is Nespresso machine and capsules in the kitchen as well as a Moka espresso, a French press and drip cone. There is Cuisenart processor, Kitchenaid mixer, and an instant boiler. There is a user friendly alarm system installed at the property.

Guest access

The bedrooms and bathrooms are on the second floor and there are steps from street level to home. The garden itself is terraced with steps. Guests may use the washer and dryer on the lowest level which is a small studio with separate entrance used by my grown son.

We have a lovely gardener and a cleaning person who come every two weeks. Lupe is happy to launder sheets and change bedding. All linens are cotton. My son Michael may be available to answer questions although he is often traveling. When at home in Oakland he is very quiet, meditates and studies.

Our home is in the popular Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland. College Avenue is a 10 minute walk away and you'll find restaurants, grocery stores, and other shops in this popular area. . Rockridge is a great walking neighborhood with many lovely houses and gardens. Many homes here were built after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and have their own charm and character. You'll find stairways in the neighborhood which were built so that residents could easily walk down to the tramway which was in use at the time.

Getting around

The University of California is a short bike ride away, or about a 25 minute walk. There is also a bus line which runs down College Avenue to campus. Stanford is an hour's drive away. San Francisco State University is about a 35 minute drive. It is about a 10 minute walk to BART, our metro system which takes you to San Francisco in 20 minutes. Street parking is free and plentiful.
