If you are coming to Trieste 1. by bus/train: take either BUS NUMBER 10, quickest option, from Piazza Tommaseo, via Orsera stop - 3 minutes walk from Train Station or BUS NUMBER 1, from opposite Train Station, the number one takes a bit longer, and you need to get off at Capodistria stop. Use Google maps, it helps with the exact stops too. Bear in mind not many buses travel after 8pm in Trieste, but the bus network during the day is exceptional. 2. By car: private parking in Via Selvatico, the parallel street below to where we live, our private street, if you come by car! Please remember to leave your car keys if you are shooting off in day trips, Buddha forbids something happens we need to be able to move your car for Ambulance service. 3. Taxis would cost you about 15 euros. 4. By bike: you can park your bike in our garden! And the Parenzana bike trail is just one minute away! 5. By plane from Venice: shuttle from Airport (either Marco Polo or Treviso) to Mestre, and then train. Follow point 1 (buses) afterwards. From Trieste Airport: even easier: there is a train line connecting the airport – there is a bit of a walk, but doable. Tickets for both shuttle bus 51 (timetable online on the ATP website!) can be bought either on location from the machines inside the airport. For train (timetable online, on the TRENITALIA website) online from the Trenitalia application

It gives us the time to chat and it gives you the chance not to starve if you arrived in Trieste on closed shops. Please let me know in advance if you have any allergies or you are on a special diet. The area is full with supermarkets so you can buy food and store it in the fridge for your next days here. Please do not use the kitchen to cook lunch/dinner, without our instructions. We can will show you how to do it&where everything is! 3. Internet: The house has a wi-fi connection. Via Giacosa 8 - Vodafone 3488... - kaiiykysxsytbx9. If you ask when you arrive about this, we will take points from you for not reading this House Manual!  4. Guides: I will prepare some guide books for you and a map. Feel free to ask me any questions about Trieste! We are enthusiastic guides of its beauties! Please leave them where you found them before you check out. 5. We care about the environment, so please use the recycling bins (paper, plastic etc) under the kitchen sink (organic, paper, non-recycable) and the cupboard next to that (plastic, glass). 6. No smoking, no pets. Not inside the house, not outside, we can still smell it, especially during the summer when all the windows are open and that wretched smell wafts in. If you are a smoker, you are not a good match for us, sorry. 7. Yes, the tap water is drinkable, one of the best in Italy. No need to purchase it 8. We know travelling means dirty clothes, so let us know if you need a run of the washing machine – please use it only after our instructions. 9. Do not leave personal items (towels, food etc) in the kitchen and in the downstairs living and dining area, as they are shared space! 10. We are going to give you a key, and instruct you on how to use the alarm system, either by remote or, if it is not available, through an especially created WhatsApp group. So yes, you must have WhastApp OR any other web based chat software such as Viver, telegram etc. We also offer additional services, if we have time and are available: - tasting Italian coffee and differences between Trieste coffee and the rest of the world - bike rental - Italian cuisine classes - sports activities: badminton, balls for soccer, tennis rackets, volleyballs, beach towels (so please do not use the room ones!) BEFORE CHECK-OUT As to keys: please fix an appointment with us to give us back the keys for the next guest/or leave them in the mail box outside the door safely hidden in an envelope. Please leave the room in order before you leave and… that’s it! A BLAST FROM THE PAST As a final piece of advice, from our past horror guests. We called them Captain Obvious points… - we had guests who blocked our driveway. No, during the weekend we may need to exit too! - we work long hours and we are happy to host, but if after 12 hours of work you ask me things that are in the guide book I gave you… no. I will charge you guide tour services for that. - true story, we sent a full list of supermarkets and Google Maps addresses and guest “could not find them”. We left guest to starve, as we had prepared for her dinner the previous night, when she arrived embarrassingly late, with no warning to boot. If we cook you dinner, which we are happy to offer to get to know you, offer to cook something from your own region in return, for example, or be independent from day 2 onwards. - use the window cleaner after the shower on the window sill, this way no water droplets remain, no deposits to remove with chemical products - if you read till the end, my congrats! I will teach a Romanian word for this… vacanţă plăcută!

Anmerkungen

VERY IMPORTANT.. If we are HOME, we never ask for a CLEANING fee as we prepare everything for our guests for free. However, should you arrive when you are away/travelling, we ask for a 40 euros cleaning fee - to be paid directly to the girl handling the keys and the cleaning as the house needs to be ready for the next guests.

This is what to do in Trieste BOTH when it rains and when it is sunny! 1. Start with a visit closer to via Giacosa: Visit the inside of the San Giusto castle in the city center: a collection of weapons and Roman vestiges inside, a magnificent view of the city from its walls! Remains of Roman Trieste can be found in the Roman theatre beneath the Castle and in the Arco the Riccardo, in the Old Town! 2. Visit the inside of the Castles we have around Trieste: Miramare for example (entrance up on Grignano closed due to works, go until by bus 6/36 till Bivio, get off the bus and walk on the sea side till the Castle): Prince Maximilian and his wife, Princess Charlotte of Belgium lived here till... the Mexico incident! Which was that? :) 3. do not miss Duino and its poetic path, named after a poet who stayed there! (Duino is 20 km away from Trieste) or take a boat to Muggia, across the bay, the little town has a castle too 4. Revoltella museum: Baron Revoltella died childless after financing the building of the Suez Canal and the growth of Trieste. His house, now donated to the city, hosts beautiful art from local artists. I especially recommend the paintings on the third floor, contempary art. The view from the rooftops is great! And in the summer, they do wine parties there on the roof, check out if they are already open. 5. If you like abandoned places…. the OLD PORT, it is after TRAIN STATION, maybe when coming back from Miramare: It's a ghost city, as it was under lock down under the State Property... until last year. Now the Municipality of Trieste wants to make it available for Trieste City of Science ESOF 2020. iu-hu! And... check out all the things in the maps and guides. Trieste has great wine, fantastic places to eat and stroll.
