Outdoor recreation Hot Air Balloon Rides A hot air balloon ride is the perfect way to commemorate milestone occasions and see Las Vegas from a higher perspective. Red Rock Canyon Red Rock Canyon offers many different activities. Visitors can camp, hike, bike and climb. Red Rock Canyon is also exciting for those interested in geology. The many rock formations will fascinate both beginner and advanced geologists, including Aztec Sandstone, Iron Concretions, Limestone and Dinosaur Fossils. Don’t miss Mojave Max, “the desert spokestortoise for all the wild tortoises that live in the Mojave Desert.” (Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association) American Alpine Institute If you enjoy rock climbing, this is the place for you. Located only 20 miles from The Strip, this part of Red Rock Canyon offers guided rock climbing where you can learn to climb, improve your skills and enjoy the scenery. Climbing routes are available for all skill levels. Cowboy Trail Rides Choose from a variety of ride options evocative of the Wild West (without the violence). Be sure to check out seasonal specials for Valentine’s Day, Easter Sunday and Mother’s Day. Lake Mead The Lake Mead National Recreation Area features outdoor activities year-round. Those who visit Lake Mead can enjoy boating, wakeboarding, water skiing, tubing, fishing, hiking, photography, picnicking and sightseeing. Be on the lookout for wildlife found only in the desert. (Sadly, the water level has gone down drastically in recent years. Please check before visiting). Kid-friendly activities Vegas Indoor Skydiving At Vegas Indoor Skydiving, families can enjoy the exhilaration of skydiving without jumping out of a plane. All necessary gear is included with the flight purchase. Participants attend a brief training class about the basics of indoor skydiving before the actual "jump". Battle Blast Laser Tag Similar to the rest of Las Vegas, laser tag is a spectacle. Players get to experience the feeling of entering a live action video game in a large, multi-level arena. Opportunity Village Opportunity Village is a Las Vegas charitable organization that puts on fun seasonal events. Enjoy the “Spooktacular” Kids Fashion Show, Magical Forest. Cheyenne’s Magical School Bus Tours and Santa Paws events. Opportunity Village also puts on events for adults such as HallOVino, Smoke & Spirits and OktOVerfest. Entertainment Travel many parts of the world while staying on one street. Enjoy the Parisian lifestyle at Paris Las Vegas where you can participate in the Eiffel Tower Experience, Le Cabaret and chocolate tasting. At The Venetian, enjoy a leisurely gondola ride with a singing gondolier in the cleanest canals you’ll find! New York, New York features The Park and Brooklyn Bridge. Rome-themed Caesars Palace boasts The Forum Shops, Qua Baths & Spa and Cleopatra’s Barge. Fremont Street Experience If you’ve never seen Fremont Street, it is definitely worth your time. Fremont Street is considered downtown Las Vegas and is home to the Slotzilla Zip Line, Viva Vision Light Show, Neon Museum, Shark Tank at the Golden Nugget and Main Street Station. Henderson Lake Las Vegas and Lake Mead/Hoover Dam are easily accessible from Henderson. Popular Sunset Station and Green Valley Ranch are in Henderson as well. Henderson residents enjoy visiting the Ethel M Chocolate Factory and the Botanical Cactus Garden. For the outdoor enthusiast, Henderson features more than 80 miles of trails for walking, hiking, biking and horseback riding. If culture and entertainment are what you’re seeking, homeowners in Henderson can enjoy the Henderson Symphony Orchestra, concerts, musicals/plays, Henderson Farmers Market at the Henderson Pavilion and Henderson Convention Center. Be sure to also visit the Clark County Museum, Lion Habitat Ranch (home to retired lions from MGM, as well as other animals), and the Cowabunga Bay Water Park. Henderson also has the most public parks per capita in all of Nevada (50 within the city limits and five that are connected to schools). The Acacia Demonstration Gardens is a space devoted to helping residents develop water-efficient landscapes in the dry desert climate. Henderson has been called “Tree City USA” because of their dedication to community forestry and their devoted observance of Arbor Day.

Feedback

  • Much gratitude for hosting us in our FIRST exchange with PLU! Teresa's home is very clean, spacious and lovely. We had more than enough room for us and appreciated having the garage to store our bikes, which we brought and used on the awesome bike trails that were nearby (River Mountain Loop has several sections away from the highways). We spent our time exploring the outdoors, going to Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam. Could have spent many more days hiking and biking, especially in the sunny and warm weather, a lovely change from home in the winter. :)
